My Citation Needed tag was reverted

[edit]

By User talk:ScottishFinnishRadish as 'nonconstructive'.

I added this tag, because the definition in the opening two sentences of what constitutes a remote starter is overly general and may be inaccurate. The opening two sentences read as follows --

A remote starter is a radio controlled device, which is installed in a vehicle by the factory or an aftermarket installer to preheat or cool the vehicle before the owner gets into it. Once activated, by pushing a button on a special key chain remote, it starts the vehicle automatically for a predetermined time.

So here are my objections --

1) A remoter starter can be, but isn't required to be radio controlled. Examples being systems that operate strictly from a timer, a program or sensors which start the vehicle based strictly on temperature or battery voltages.

2) There are other reasons to remotely start a vehicle other than to pre-heat or cool a vehicle. Examples being to allow computers or other electronics to be booted and to come to a state of readiness before the operator or occupants enter the vehicle.

3) Pushing a button isn't a requirement for initiating a remote start (see #1 above).

4) Any remote doesn't need to be 'special' or even a part of a 'key chain' (in the case of a phone application, or a remote starter that works through the vehicle's factory key remote. for example).

I hope this explains why I feel the citation tag was appropriate. 57.135.233.22 (talk) 17:10, 29 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Your disagreement with the content is not a reason to place a citation needed tag, that's a completely different concern. MrOllie (talk) 17:40, 29 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Fine. If the claims made can't be backed-up with citations then I think they should just be removed. 57.135.233.22 (talk)
They are backed up with citations and should not be removed. If you think the article should be changed, the onus is on you to provide sources that back up your proposed changes. - MrOllie (talk) 18:02, 29 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
