"Operation CENTRE"
[edit]Can someone please provide a source for the claim that DDR contingency plans to invade West Berlin were called "Operation CENTRE" and involved an attack on RAF Gatow? 209.195.164.34 16:03, 1 March 2007 (UTC)
- There are sources that the DDR had plans to invade West Berlin, for example http://www.berlin.de/lstu/ausstellung/mfs-wb-plan.html However the name "CENTRE" is not mentioned in this document, so it's unsourced. But you can certainly assume that they would have attacked all Allied installation inside West Berlin which of course included Gatow, even though this invasion map omits it. rename to RAF Gatow
[edit]Shouldnt this page be renamed RAF Gatow, being as most of the content is about the RAF? -- Teutonic Tamer 19:17, 10 January 2008 (UTC)
History section
[edit]There is too much, wasted white space below that sections headline. I am in favour of someone removing it if other Wikipedians agree. Pimpom123 15:54, 12 March 2008 (GMT)
Image copyright problem with Image:BSAA Avro Tudor II - G-AKCD - Star Eagle.jpg
[edit]The image Image:BSAA Avro Tudor II - G-AKCD - Star Eagle.jpg is used in this article under a claim of fair use, but it does not have an adequate explanation for why it meets the requirements for such images when used here. In particular, for each page the image is used on, it must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Please check
- That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's description page for the use in this article.
- That this article is linked to from the image description page.

civil service Northolt-Hamburg-Gatow: Pionair airplane
[edit]Why is the DC-3 called a Pionair in this section? I should think Dakota a better name? <quote> using Pionair and Vickers Viking </quote> Jan olieslagers (talk) 10:41, 21 June 2010 (UTC)
- Hello Jan olieslagers, Although confusing, the name 'Pionair' is correct. It's the name used by British European Airways for the Douglas DC-3 (look here [1]). The name Dakota or Skytrain is the military version called Douglas C-47. Joerg, the BajanZindy (talk) 13:41, 21 June 2010 (UTC)
- IIRC, the Pionair was a Rolls-Royce Dart-engined version of the DC-3/C-47/Dakota - the name was a play on Pioneer, as it was one of the first turboprop airliners, albeit a conversion.
Intelligence gathering
[edit]Does this need expansion?
AIUI, Gatow was "head office" for this sigint work and was the airfield used for a number of sigint aircraft, often quite small. However the receiver location was, from the early 1960s, mostly at Teufelsberg (as the only high ground for miles). Andy Dingley (talk) 10:05, 19 May 2016 (UTC)
