Suggested merger of Punch press and this article
[edit]A "punch press" is always a "punching machine", as far as I can see.
And a "punching machine" is (nearly?) always a "punch press", isn't it?
So it seems obvious to combine the two articles.
Especially since both are neither very long nor very well written and still contain redundancies.
So there is not much to loose, I suppose, but the subject could likely be explained more clearly in a single article.
Also turret punch should maybe be a paragraph of punching machine rather than a separate article?

- Oppose - although presses are a big topic and WP coverage is pretty dreadful.
- A punch press is an old (Victorian) machine which punches holes in one place. Later machines punch holes in several places, as a long strip of metal is fed through them, but the tooling always hits the same spot.
- A punching machine is a much newer machine, which also has the ability to move the workpiece around under the tool. So it can use one tool to make repeated holes, or to make a larger hole.
- If anything, the merge targets would be between punching machine and turret punch. Andy Dingley (talk) 10:31, 10 August 2019 (UTC)
