Recording and edition

[edit]

The examples of the Magnificat, Psalm 114 and Psalm 146 are quite unique, because they were first recorded 1984, and 1987 and c. 1973 (28 November 1971, according to C. van Zwol), using scores prepared especially for these performances, long before they were officially issued by Paul Hawkshaw in 1996/97 in the Gesamtausgabe.[1]

For Psalm 114 a score based on Bruckner's manuscript has made (by Robert Simpson?) for Best's recording.

A single "faithful" recording of the work (i.e., in accordance with the edited score) has been issued after the issue of the Gesamtausgabe:

  • Johannes Rühl, Capella Kreuzberg, Blechbläser der Deutschen Oper Berlin und des Deutschen Sinfonie-Orchesters, Anton Bruckner zum 175. Geburtstag, 12./13.6.1999 Live (Berlin, St. Paulus/Moabit, Hl.-Kreuz/Kreuzberg) - CD: issued by the choir.

Hans Roelofs and I find Best's stil the best recording. --Réginald alias Meneerke bloem (To reply) 14:29, 10 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
