[edit]this article should indeed be at least as long and in-depth as the Internationalism article, if not more so. 71.255.215.157 17:41, 9 February 2006 (UTC)
Added an Internationalist website for people who want to see more info.
PJB 18:39, 23 February 2006 (UTC) (Talkin' to me?) My view is that ONLY Socialism can be internationalist. Bourgeois internatioanlism is a fiction. The bourgeoisie, of course, wants to exapnd beyond national borders- hence "globalization". But, AT THE SAME TIME, the bourgeoisie NEEDS NATIONALISM, in order to fight against competition from other foreign capitalists, and, of course, in order to divide the working class along national lines. - It seems to me that a lot of capitalists have an internationalist outlook themselves but use nationalism to further their own interests. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 82.23.135.169 (talk) 00:15, 10 September 2009 (UTC)
Nelson Mandela on Cuban military intervention in Africa
[edit]The following is from the article about Fidel Castro:
- On 1975-11-04, Castro ordered the deployment of Cuban troops to Angola in order to aid the Marxist MPLA-ruled government against the South African-backed UNITA opposition forces. Moscow aided the Cuban initiative with the USSR engaging in a massive airlift of Cuban forces into Angola. On Cuba's role in Angola, Nelson Mandela is said to have remarked "Cuban internationalists have done so much for African independence, freedom, and justice."[76] Cuban troops were also sent to Marxist Ethiopia to assist Ethiopian forces in the Ogaden War with Somalia in 1977. In addition, Castro extended support to Marxist Revolutionary movements throughout Latin America, such as aiding the Sandinistas in overthrowing the Somoza government in Nicaragua in 1979. It has been claimed by the Carthage Foundation-funded Center for a Free Cuba[77] that an estimated 14,000 Cubans were killed in Cuban military actions abroad.[78]
For comparison, the following is from the article about Nelson Mandela:
- In 2003 Mandela criticised the foreign policy of the George W. Bush administration in a number of speeches. Criticising the lack of UN involvement in the decision to begin the War in Iraq, he said, "It is a tragedy, what is happening, what Bush is doing. But Bush is now undermining the United Nations." Mandela stated he would support action against Iraq only if it is ordered by the UN. Mandela also insinuated that Bush may have been motivated by racism in not following the UN and its secretary-general Kofi Annan on the issue of the war. "Is it because the secretary-general of the United Nations is now a black man? They never did that when secretary-generals were white".[40]
- He urged the people of the U.S. to join massive protests against Bush and called on world leaders, especially those with vetoes in the UN Security Council, to oppose him. "What I am condemning is that one power, with a president who has no foresight, who cannot think properly, is now wanting to plunge the world into a holocaust." He attacked the United States for its record on human rights and for dropping atomic bombs on Japan during World War II. "If there is a country that has committed unspeakable atrocities in the world, it is the United States of America. They don't care."[40]
These quotes may not be from the same decade, but I think they show Mandela's view. It seems that what is important to him is not in fact that UN approves military action, but that the military action is comitted for socialism.
Has no-one dared to call the "proletarian internationalism" for "socialist imperialism", or would it be wrong? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Ehasl (talk • contribs) 21:29, 29 April 2008
- Proletarian internationalism is about universal collective and individual self-determination. So no, it would be wrong. I think what you're thinking of is the imperialism of the Soviet Union...and the one thing all socialists agree on regarding the Soviet Union is that it wasn't socialist. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 82.23.135.169 (talk) 00:11, 10 September 2009 (UTC)
Do not confound Marxist theory with soviet practice
I think it would be interesting at least to link the article to the Cuban participation in SA and also the International Brigades in the Spanish Civil War —Preceding unsigned comment added by Erioluk (talk • contribs) 15:40, 17 October 2008 (UTC)
Socialist internationalism
[edit]Socialist internationalism was the main implementation of the Proletarian internationalism, so it is important to this article.Xx236 (talk) 09:28, 30 November 2009 (UTC)
- Agree, in principle. The end of the second sentence, objectively, should be "replace it with something else". But by now the article has taken on a character as a whole that that precludes this wider perspective. 98.4.124.117 (talk) 23:23, 23 July 2018 (UTC)
