[edit]Is Autunm Leek Orchid mispelt?Victuallers 17:23, 27 February 2007 (UTC)
- Indeed. I've made also several other changes. JoJan 18:23, 27 February 2007 (UTC)
WCSP
[edit]There appear to be inconsistencies in the Kew listing of Prasophyllum (as at 10/10/17):
- 1. In a 1994 paper, David Jones explained that a mistake was made with specimens collected near Bairnsdale. One specimen was given the name P. chasmogamum. The type of P. chasmogamum was later found to be identical to P. pyriforme. A second species found at the same location was described as a new species and given the name P. correctum. Prasophyllum chasmogamum is therefore a synonym. Surprisingly, Kew gives both P. chasmogamum and P. correctum.[1] Gderrin (talk) 22:58, 11 October 2017 (UTC)
- 2. Prasophyllum antennatum is regarded as a nom. illeg. nom. superfl. by the Australian Plant Name Index because "Clements and Jones had included Prasophyllum gracile var. ringens in synonymy which had been raised to species level as P. ringens by Bates in July 1989."[2] Kew lists P. ringens as a synonym of P. antennatum. Both papers (Clements/Jones and Bates) were published in 1989 but Bates published in July, Clements/Jones published in August. Prasophyllum ringens therefore takes precedence and P. antennatum is a synonym.[3][4]
- 3. Prasophyllum crassum, P. nitidum, P. roseum, P. rousei, P. stygium, P. sylvicola and P. spadiceum and P. tortilis (not listed in WCSP) are new species.[5][6]
- 4. Prasophyllum exiguum is a nom. invol. because no Latin description has been published.[7]
- 5. Prasophyllum exile is a misspelling of P. exilis and Prasophyllum vitreum is a misspelling of P. viretrum.[8][9]
(Some other Prasophyllum species have been transferred to Genoplesium by Australian authorities but some of the changes are apparently not recognised by WCSP.)
Kew has been advised. Gderrin (talk) 01:04, 24 October 2017 (UTC)
Kew has advised the following changes will be made:
- 1. Prasophyllum chasmogamum is a synonym of P. pyriforme;
- 2. Prasophyllum antennatum is a synonym of Prasophyllum ringens and Genoplesium nudum [1];
- 3. The new species of Prasophyllum noted above are in IPNI and WCSP will be updated in a few months;
- 4. The spelling of P. exile is correct since the genus (name Prasophyllum) is neuter; (Nevertheless, the published name is P. exilis.)
- 5. The correct spelling is P. viretrum rather than P. vitreum.

- The spelling of Prasophyllum exilis does not need re-publishing to be automatically corrected to the right gender (as P. exile). Please see Article 62 of the International Code of Botanical Nomemclature. I have removed the section pertaining to this from the main article.
- "62.1. A generic name retains the gender assigned by nomenclatural tradition, irrespective of classical usage or the author’s original usage." MFdeS (talk) 03:39, 4 December 2017 (UTC)
Image of Prasophyllum elatum
[edit]The image "Strettle Road Reserve prasophyllum elatum" presently on this page is unusually tall, and apparently when the labelled image "Prasophyllum (labelled 2).jpg" is included under it, creates white space on the article page. The labelled image is valuable for illustrating non-resupination, so I propose to replace both with images that are not so tall. I will include the P. elatum image in a gallery below the article.
