GA review (see here for what the criteria are, and here for what they are not)
  1. It is reasonably well written.
a (prose, spelling, and grammar): b (MoS for lead, layout, word choice, fiction, and lists):
    Well structured and well written.
  2. It is factually accurate and verifiable.
a (reference section): b (citations to reliable sources): c (OR): d (copyvio and plagiarism):
Good use of reliable sources. I looked through all matches above 3% on Earwig's Copyvio Tool, and had no concerns.
  3. It is broad in its coverage.
    a (major aspects): b (focused):
Based on my reading of the sources used, the coverage is appropriate and balanced.
  4. It follows the neutral point of view policy.
    Fair representation without bias:
Suitable tone of voice maintained throughout.
  5. It is stable.
    No edit wars, etc.:
  6. It is illustrated by images and other media, where possible and appropriate.
a (images are tagged and non-free content have fair use rationales): b (appropriate use with suitable captions):
  7. Overall:
    Pass/Fail:

I'm happy to discuss, or be challenged on, any of my review comments. Regards, BennyOnTheLoose (talk) 02:40, 20 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Alanna the Brave Thanks for your work on this article. It reads well and makes good use of reliable sources. I have a couple of points for consideration, noted below. Let me know if you have any questions. Regards, BennyOnTheLoose (talk) 12:25, 20 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Check of Sources

  • Canadian Encyclopedia Checked
  • "Canadian contralto Portia White's life on the stage" Checked Redundant as a reference as the Canadian Encyclopedia also verifies full name, date of birth and place of birth. Consider making this an external link instead. checkY BennyOnTheLoose (talk) 17:38, 20 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • "Performer, educator Lorne White dies" Checked
  • "Senator Donald Oliver" Checked
  • Ito
"where her mother was also the musical director" - I couldn't see where this was verified by this source. It is verified in Nurse (1998). checkY BennyOnTheLoose (talk) 17:38, 20 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Nurse (2009) - preview not available on Google Books for me. No reason not to assume good faith.
  • Hamilton (2009) - only part of the preview was available on Google Books for me. No reason not to assume good faith.
  • Nurse (1998) Checked
  • The Centre for Canadian Studies Checked
  • Forster
"even receiving a surprise career management offer from Oxford University Press" - This sounds surprising to me, but I don't think the source quite supports that description, so I'd suggest changing it to something like the blander "and received a career management offer..." checkY BennyOnTheLoose (talk) 17:38, 20 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
"an expensive white fox cape" - Source doesn't mention that it was expensive, so I suggest omitting that word. checkY BennyOnTheLoose (talk) 17:38, 20 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Hamilton (2004) Checked
  • Arsenault Checked
  • Choi Checked
  • Marcogliese Checked
  • Our History - Nova Scotia Talent Trust Checked
  • Special awards - Nova Scotia Talent Trust Checked
  • Arts Nova Scotia Checked
  • Parks Canada Checked
  • Halifax Regional Municipality - Official Street List Checked
  • Devereaux Checked
  • Poland
Has the title as Portia rather than Portia White: First You Dream. Maybe add another reference - Portia White: First You Dream should have some. checkY BennyOnTheLoose (talk) 17:38, 20 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Victoria Playhouse
Unless it's an issue with how the page displays on mobile, there doesn't seem to be any supporting text on this page, even the title of the work. I don't think this is being used to verify anything that isn't covered elsewhere so consider moving this to external links. checkY BennyOnTheLoose (talk) 17:38, 20 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • CBC Books Checked

@BennyOnTheLoose: Thank you for the review -- I appreciate the thorough sourcing check, and I've incorporated your suggestions above (all sensible!). The only item I had some trouble with was the Portia stage play title: I hadn't realized it, but the play seems to have gone through multiple name changes. I added an additional source and noted that the play is sometimes simply "Portia". Please let me know if there is anything else in the article I need to address. Cheers, Alanna the Brave (talk) 15:19, 20 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Alanna the Brave: Thanks for making the amendments. I'm happy to pass this for GA. Well done! Regards, BennyOnTheLoose (talk) 17:38, 20 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Improved to Good Article status by Alanna the Brave (talk). Self-nominated at 20:34, 25 May 2020 (UTC).[reply]

  • Article improved to GA status within the requisite timeframe. It is long enough, and within policy. Earwig's tool throws up a high likelihood of copyvio, but most of the hits are quotations or names, and I think the other phrases are common and specific enough that their use is acceptable. Hook is interesting, and checks out against the sources. Image license checks out to the best of my abilities. Good to go. Vanamonde (Talk) 20:36, 26 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
