…As early as 1864, Webster's Dictionary defined the word bluntly as "a licentious painting"[21], and the Oxford English Dictionary definition is from obscene painting (1842), description of obscene matters, obscene publication (1977 or earlier).[ref] The more inclusive word erotica when not demoted to pornography by censors, is used as a synonym…

Psychological perspective

[edit]

The psychological perspective is almost completely psychoanalysis, which is interesting to read, but isn't mainstream psychology. tgeorgescu (talk) 07:58, 28 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the read and feedback, will try to add more info from mainstream psychology. Rim sim (talk) 07:55, 29 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Racial demographics citation

[edit]

I would like to correct the section relying on Rothman (2021) and Shor & Golriz (2019). This part claims that ethnic women are overrepresented in pornography and cites some numbers.

Rothman is referencing Shor and Golriz here in her text. However, if you read Shor and Golriz, frankly, she got it wrong. Shor and Golriz's study was not a study designed to measure the representation of different races, instead, they employed "purposive sampling" with the explicit purpose of increasing ethnic representation in their sample. Quote:

We first sampled 50 videos from Pornhub’s general all-time most watched list. As most of the videos on this list included sexual interactions between a White (North American) man and a White (North American) woman, we sought to increase representation for other racial groups and the sexual interactions among them. We therefore purposively sampled additional all-time most watched videos from each of the following Pornhub categories: “Inter- racial” (25 videos), “Ebony” (52 videos), “Asian/Japanese” (35 videos), and “Latina” (19 videos), as well as “Gay” (25 vid- eos). In total, this preliminary sampling resulted in a pool of 206 coded videos.

Instead I propose to include some of Shor & Golriz's main findings, quote:

As for women, perhaps the most surprising finding of our study was that Black female performers were the least likely group of women to suffer from nonconsensual aggression and were also more likely to be the recipients of affectionate acts from either White or Black male partners.

And:

While Black female performers were not more likely to suffer from aggression, videos featuring Latina and Asian performers did include a higher rate of aggression compared with those featuring White (or Black) female performers. ShinyAlbatross (talk) 03:47, 12 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the insight, you may proceed. Rim sim (talk) 06:24, 13 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Religious aspects.

[edit]

Hinduism didnt talk anything on Pornography, whereas One of goals of life is Kama, Desires. Hindu scriptures Kamasutra says only about good desires of sex position between spouse, not a sexual course.

Porn based on attraction views on enjoyable in sex life between illicit relation between men, women for money .

Kamasutra or any indian hindu scriptures didt says on worst realtionships . Delete the content about how kamasutra explain it. Hemanthhaem (talk) 16:15, 2 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Read it clearly, reference says nothing about porn or pornography.
Kama is desire, kamasutra of indian hindu texts describes position and sex life between two couples, kamasutra didnt says that illicit relationships. Hemanthhaem (talk) 00:39, 3 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Men and women will live together merely because of superficial attraction, and success in business will depend on deceit. Womanliness and manliness will be judged according to one’s expertise in sex life.
