Autonomy

[edit]

The comments that the IOW should be more like the Isle of Man do seem a bit POV ?--Streona (talk) 15:43, 13 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Very true - in fact the whole paragraph seems to be somewhat of a POV-fest. I've removed it for now, but it could return if anyone can find a something sourced about moving to a crown dependency (or similar) style administration. --Neil (talk) 15:53, 13 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Not a lot is said about the islands economy and crime rates. The 50% plus unemployment rate and the very high standards of homelessness in comparison with neighbouring counties seems to be neglected. According to criminologist the high unemployment rate and high homeless rate should be correlated with high crime rate. In fact the isle of wight has very low crime rates in comparison to the poverty and other structural rates. There is not much said about the rurally poor of the IOW and the impact this has on the young, employment opportunities, transport and other infrastructures. The IOW is dominated by a monopoly in the transport infrastructure. Buses and public transport (ferries)are overpriced by monopolistic companies. Tis incrases the strucural gap between those who can afford the transport and those who cannot. Specifially in rural locations people who suffer severe deprivation find it hard to access cental services. This makes their exclution even worse. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 148.197.5.20 (talk) 20:30, 4 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Assessment

[edit]

Looking through the article there is a lot of really good stuff here, however there remain so few references! Most of them are just from a new section I've just added. Anyway, for this reason I've rated it start class. Once references have been added I think it could easily be moved up to C or B class. Any other ideas for improvement?
