It has been raised by @Aethelwolf Emsworth: that this article is biased towards Christianity when other forms of "political theology" may exist. (Whilst this is true in theory, it does not seem to exist in practice as the term is almost always used in the context of Christianity.) The question I want to raise is would it not simply be sufficient to rename this article and all regionally-specific forms of this article to be prefaced with the word "Christian," hence "Christian political theology"? This seems like the simplest solution and if anybody wishes to create "Confucian political theology" or "Islamic political theology", it can be done. --Caorongjin (talk) 23:25, 26 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Actually, the term "theology" is no longer used exclusively to define Christian theology in modern academia. There are plenty of articles and books about "Confucian theology", "Islamic theology". The article needs expansion rather than renaming. "Political theology" is central to religions like Confucianism and Islam, maybe more than in the modern, extremely fragmented and porous Christian religion or what remains of it.--Aethelwolf Emsworth (talk) 11:16, 12 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I don't dispute the growing use of the term "Confucian theology," but simply am stating it is less common. Point is taken—especially since the Theology article is more than about Christianity, which is contrasted from Christian theology. This is why I would rather just rename these articles as "Christian political theology" and "Christian political theology (China)", etc., and allow for a new article to be written about "Political theology" and "Political theology in China." The counterargument to this suggestion is that Christian political theology cannot easily be separated from Islamic and Jewish political theology in some contexts; namely, it can't be separated from the other Abrahamic religions regarding medieval political philosophy/theology. Muslim scholars maintained and preserved Platonic and Aristotelean philosophy for centuries, and were consulted by European theologians. This is not to reject Caorongjin's points, but rather, an article on Christian political theology would itself require an article on political theology more broadly. I think it would be better to resolve the limited scope of the article than change its title to Christian political theology and start fresh. BornOn8thOfJuly (talk) 04:46, 18 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
