Expert Subject
Hi,
I have a couple of issues with the article. I will try to clean it up as time allows.
- Simon Anholt first used the term in 1998. He talks about nation-brand. Then there is van Ham's 2001 article.
- If there is a claim that place branding is the new umbrella term (which I agree), it is definitely not known as destination branding, place marketing or place promotion.
- Las Vegas example is not a branding example.
- Everything is based on an economic understanding of place branding, there are several other aspects.
- Freire's main argument is about geo-branding. It is highly understated.
- There is a more structured debate about the role of communication.
- There should be something about place development and place management.
- There should be a section about public diplomacy and soft power studies as well I believe.
I also think both city branding and nation branding should be integrated into this article.

Cleanup
Dear all,
I changed the first sentence of this article as I believe the first recorded use of the term is Simon Anholt's in 'Destination Branding,' and any earlier references are to 'place marketing.'

"Place branding (also known as destination branding, place marketing or place promotion)" <=a shame they are different things... —Preceding unsigned comment added by 193.205.81.1 (talk) 11:57, 14 July 2009 (UTC)
