Pierre Martin (French Navy officer) → Pierre Martin (Navy officer) — No other Navy officers so the ethnic adjective is not required. 199.126.224.245 (talk) 06:33, 15 September 2010 (UTC)
- Comment How about Pierre Martin (admiral) instead? (Or Pierre Martin (officer).) --JaGatalk 13:25, 15 September 2010 (UTC)
- Comment it's not an ethnic adjective, French Navy means the Navy of France, so it signifies which navy he served in. 76.66.200.95 (talk) 04:33, 16 September 2010 (UTC)
- Oppose the ip is correct, it would be 'French naval officer' if it were being used as the adjectival form. Admiral, and other similar military titles like general, captain, etc have generally been deprecated as disambiguators because it assigns a particular rank to a person who would have held many as they advanced during their careers. To use the service appears to be a common form though, as seen in many examples in Category:Royal Navy admirals for example, with Henry Inman (Royal Navy officer) being the usual format. - Unnecessary over-qualification is a no-no for article titles; see WP:PRECISION. The simplest disambiguator is the best. --JaGatalk 08:46, 16 September 2010 (UTC)
