Notability and UPE

[edit]

This article was deleted several times because many editors thought this subject didn't meet WP:GNG and/or there was Undisclosed paid editing involved. However, I or any editor from India may be able to verify that the subject does indeed meet notability criterias as the subject is largely talked about in India (and as the references show). I have myself often time seen offline sources for the subject. About the UPE, I don't think it is involved because there are a large number of students which Physics Wallah caters to, so it is very likely possible that one of their students or any other prospective editor may have created the page. Now, I have deleted content which looked like advert to me, and I surely believe that this stub could be significantly improved. ❯❯❯ Raydann(Talk) 09:32, 18 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Raydann Being from India, I do agree with your take on the notability of the article, based on offline/online sources. Wrt to the Undisclosed paid concerns, I do agree that it might be students editing, however given the amount of non-neutral material present in the article (especially in this version, before I cleaned up a lot of the unreliable sources/promotional tone) it probably qualifies as conflict of interest editing anyway. Proposed merge of Alakh Pandey into Physics Wallah

There is not a lot of coverage outside of the guy's involvement with Physics Wallah. Sohom (talk) 06:14, 13 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Note I have notified Wikiproject India, WikiProject Companies and Wikiproject Education about this dicussion. Sohom (talk) 09:23, 16 January 2024 (UTC) [reply]

  • Oppose Another page named Byju Raveendran exists in the same category. He is also known only for co-founding Byju's a educational technology company. If this individual is considered notable enough to have his own page, it should not be redirected.Fudyrelu (talk) 08:06, 18 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Fudyrelu: This isn't a valid reason to oppose. If you have something to add that can help us understand why this subject deserves a standalone article, please share. I recommend taking a look at WP:Other stuff exists. – DreamRimmer (talk) 08:59, 18 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose Alakh Pandey's life is not merely about Physics Wallah, as he received awards and had an interview with Padma Shri H.C. Verma. Further research is needed to uncover more information. Byju Ravindran's article should not be merged with Byju's, as he has a separate piece and his wife also has an article, Divya Gokulnath. IndicAmsha (talk) 05:51, 18 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
All three articles should be redirected in my opinion, they don't discuss anything outside of their involvement in their respective companies. Sohom (talk) 05:02, 19 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose I agree completely that all of his fame is related to Physic's Wallah but personal details such as his marriage and his appearance in TMKC cant be added into the companies' page. Morover the company is still young and will have more information unrelated to him in the future and vice versa. — Preceding unsigned comment added by NotPixel (talkcontribs) 16:09, 22 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose: Panday started out as "the Physics Wallah" (transl. Physics guy). Before the expansion of the channel into a decentralised company with multiple teachers it would have still been notable in its own right as the YouTube identity of Panday. That sources are going to refer to Panday as Physics Wallah shouldn't be taken to conclude that his notability is inherited from the company. 2001:8F8:172B:54F0:344B:7397:BA90:EC71 (talk) 12:16, 25 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose: This Motion would have been apt 6 years ago, when “Physics Wallah” was nothing but a pseudonym for Alakh Pandey to teach directly under (as illustrated by the channel name: Physics Wallah-Alakh Pandey). Currently such is not the case wherein Physics Wallah (company) and its subsidiaries each employ faculties cumulating to around 2000 education experts and a team of over 5000 employees. Physics Wallah may have been founded by Alakh Pandey, and Alakh Pandey may have been catapulted into the public eye because of his company(then channel), but 6 years on, the 2 are completely different entities and merging the 2 would be a disservice to both. I am by no means an avid editor of Wikipedia articles nor am I aware of the surrounding intricacies, but if anything, these 2 articles, instead of being merged, need to be fleshed out significantly. Considerable points have been left out of both articles that deserve mentioning. with respect to Subject Alakh Pandey, some events are: 1)Meet with the Education Minister of India to discuss the National Educational Policy(2020). 2)Meet with the CM of Uttar Pradesh to discuss the integration of ED Tech in UP. 3)Interview with H.C Verma. These are events of considerable importance concerning the articles we are discussing and warrant mentioning under the Subject’s article yet, these would have no place under the Physics Wallah (Company) article as the Subject was not acting as a spokesperson of Physics Wallah but rather as a prominent figure in the current landscape of Indian education. I understand and am in favor of the need to keep the article neat and precise and remove any hint of bias from students or similar individuals. However, as things are, the 2 articles simply cannot be clumped together under said pretense of cleanliness, or even just lack of research, since these 2 entities considerably influence the current framework of Indian education. I understand that most of those who have posted on this talk page are Indian, therefore they must be aware of how much of a household name the Subject and Company are and by extension how appropriate it is to separate their articles. Being a student myself I understand that my perspective may be seen as biased, which is why I have steered clear of editing any of the 2 articles myself as it may been viewed as a conflict of interest. Having said that, being a student does put me in a position to judge these articles effectively to note just how insufficient they are in mentioning all the necessary details involving said entities/articles, especially considering their current influence. As it stands, yes, both articles (barren as they are) do seem redundant, but that is only because of the lack of information included. There are plenty of interviews and news articles available online regarding/with the Subject should any verified wiki editors wish to incorporate anything. Alakh Pandey indeed remains the face of the company and channel. However, his past and current involvement with the Indian education sphere, in my opinion, extends farther than said company and channel.Tangoez (talk) 11:21, 8 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@MSinccccLet me know if the changes work? Sohom (talk) 03:24, 1 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
By November 2023, Physics Wallah had expanded to 67 offline centers in 34 cities across India.[13] However, in the same month, the company laid off 150 employees, amounting to 0.8% of its workforce, citing performance reasons.

  1. It is reasonably well written.
    a (prose, spelling, and grammar):
I would suggest merging paragraphs 2 and 3 of the "History" section.

A 7-episode web series named Physics Wallah on the life of Alakh Pandey and his company was released on 15 December 2022 on Amazon Mini TV. Alakh Pandey, the series' protagonist, was portrayed by Shreedhar Dubey. This could be rephrased into a single sentence rather than two.

b (MoS for lead, layout, word choice, fiction, and lists):

On 21 March 2023, several teachers at the ed-tech company alleged that the vision of the company was being disillusioned and in response started an independent YouTube channel by the name, 'Sankalp Bharat'. This sentence needs to comply with WP:Proseline.
  1. It is factually accurate and verifiable.
    a (references):
Could you please change all the dates mentioned in the cited references to the dmy format for consistency?
