Why?

Edward III

"It ceased to be remitted to the pope after 1320,[7] but seemingly this was not permanent. The exact reason for the 'prohibition' by Edward III is unknown,"

Edward III was not king in 1320 but his father Edward II. From memory, however, it was Edward III who stopped the payments to Rome temporarily in the 1360s.

Ancient payment

The 8th through 16th centuries are not ancient, at least not yet. I am renaming it to a more appropriate title for this section: "Medieval payment". Jyg (talk) 03:44, 19 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
