Picture
[edit]Perhaps we could replace the incumbant picture with one lacking the personal inscription to "Alex?"

External links modified
[edit]Hello fellow Wikipedians,
I have just added archive links to one external link on Pierre S. du Pont IV. Please take a moment to review my edit. If necessary, add {{cbignore}}
after the link to keep me from modifying it. Alternatively, you can add {{nobots|deny=InternetArchiveBot}}
to keep me off the page altogether. I made the following changes:
- Added archive https://web.archive.org/20150227193149/http://clerk.house.gov/member_info/electionInfo/1984/1984Stat.htm to http://clerk.house.gov/member_info/electionInfo/1984/1984Stat.htm
When you have finished reviewing my changes, please set the checked parameter below to true to let others know.

The result of the move request was: moved - due to the nominator's extensive proposal and the lack of dissent I think moving is better than relisting here DrStrauss talk 17:28, 9 August 2017 (UTC)
Pierre S. du Pont IV → Pete du Pont – WP:COMMONNAME and WP:NATURALDIS. Du Pont is better known as "Pete" than "Pierre", and "Pete du Pont" is a simpler, more natural article title than "Pierre S. du Pont IV".
If we go with Google search results:
- "Pete du Pont" + Delaware governor returns ~7.8k results.
- "Pierre S. du Pont IV" + Delaware governor returns nearly ~1.4k results.
- "Pierre du Pont IV" + Delaware governor ~450 - and "Pierre duPont IV" + Delaware governor nearly 200 more.
Popular media has consistently referred to him as "Pete".
- The "Pete" nickname dates back to 1977 (his first year in office as Delaware governor), as this People magazine article from that year shows.
- A 1987 New York Times profile is titled "The paradox of Pete du Pont."
- The National Governors Association [1] introduces him as "Pierre Samuel 'Pete' du Pont IV".
- This press release from Bob Dole presidential campaign, 1996 calls him "Pete du Pont" without Pierre.
- A 2015 Boston Globe article is called "In ’88, an uncomfortable meeting with Pete du Pont." Arbor to SJ (talk) 04:05, 29 July 2017 (UTC)
- Support per nominator, "Pete du Pont" seems to be used much more often than his full name. Ivar the Boneful (talk) 07:09, 1 August 2017 (UTC)
