Problems with the definition

The current definition includes "... and to prescribe a course of action". This is not true. The job of the KPI is only to give information on the state (including trends) and cannot prescribe a course of corrective action. If your blood pressure is too high - you know it's too high and no more. The blood presure monitor doesn't tell the doctor how to bring the pressure down.--unsigned

KPI versus KSI

Currently, the "Categorization of indicators" section claims that KPI is the same as an objective or KSI. This seems dubious as KPI and KSI are not used interchangeably.--71.189.229.254 (talk) 05:52, 16 November 2010 (UTC)

Problems with the use of SMART

Objectives need to be SMART. The 'M' is for measurable. I would question that a KPI would itself need to be SMART. A KPI is the measurement itself. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Tonycatman (talkcontribs) 08:02, 8 November 2008 (UTC) But all KPIs require a benchmark and therefore need to be measurable against that benchmark to establish their impact. As KPIs are the fuel for driving the process, some measure is required to provide assessment. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.168.29.60 (talk) 20:11, 25 May 2011 (UTC)

Format

Hi, Is there any specific formats to implement the KPI? Thanks--unsigned

Examples

I can put in a report from work, do you think it would be accepted as it is not published Reargunner 05:41, 8 August 2007 (UTC)

An example would be helpful, but I'm not sure if it needs to be cited or not--71.189.229.254 (talk) 05:52, 16 November 2010 (UTC)

First use of the term?

Any thoughts? Does a serious _quantitative_ approach to KPI date back to Kapln & Norton in 1992, or does it go further?

Singular or plural?

I note that the page has just gone through an (AFAIK unannounced and undiscussed) move from plural form to singular. Any comments? WP:Naming conventions (plurals) & Wikipedia talk:Naming conventions/archive5#SOME article titles should be plural refer.

Why was this renamed (and without any notice or prior discussion), when the vast majority of work around this topic refers to them as "Key Performance Indicators", or the shortened form of KPI? Andy Dingley (talk) 10:01, 9 August 2009 (UTC)

Large paste by User:124.82.51.37 - possible copyvio?

Thanks for adding this, but it does appear to be a cut & paste of another work and our rules for acceptable copyright just don't allow that (they're so strongly against it we have to remove it first, then talk about it). If you think it's acceptable to use this, then please let's discuss it here and we can always add it back if it is OK. Thanks again. Andy Dingley (talk) 08:10, 23 April 2009 (UTC)
