Removed two paragraphs from section "In other media".
"In The Batman Vs. Dracula, Penguin attempts to search a buried treasure in Gotham Cemetery. When meeting with Joker at the bridge, he was electrocuted by the buzzer. At Gotham Cemetary, Penguin finds a lot of graves, which he became confuse of finding the treasure. Then, he went to a hiding place, and uses his umbrella to open the coffin. Then, Penguin accidently cut himself with umbrella knife, which Dracula was reveived. When Dracula wanted Penguin to be his tomb keeper, Penguin refuses to serve him, which Dracula hypnotizes him. In the end, after Dracula was destroyed, Penguin was back to normal, and taken back to Arkham."
"An episode of the anime series Cowboy Bebop centered on Tongpu (also known as "Mad Pierrot"), a maniacal assassin whose methods, habits, and general character are a clear nod to the Penguin."
Found the first one unclear and unnecessary. The second one too trivial. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 200.38.65.206 (talk • contribs) 10:30, 29 January 2006 (UTC)

In the section 'The Batman' for the newest cartoon, I reverted the images. One does the job of two. I did, however, use that Kabuki twins pic over on their page.
The Dark Knight
Freeze Dried Movies is in no way a reliable source for information.
Fan site?
the link at the bottom (The Penguin's Personal Website) appears to be a, while quite possibly well intended and an enthusiastic show of fandom, vanity page. I'd remove it; but there's always the chance someone knows something that I don't. So would the contributor who added it please give an arugment why it should stay (and make this clear on the article itself), lest it be deleted and written off as a personal link? Returns -> Comics
Added 2 sentences about how some of the Penguin's appearance in Returns was adapted to the comics (ie, his flipper hands). Thought it was lacking. --Switch 13:11, 18 September 2006 (UTC)
- I reverted it out., that information was already included in the cartoons section. It hasn't particularly appeared in any canonical comics, and his official appearance still has five fingers.ThuranX 20:55, 18 September 2006 (UTC)
Penguin pic
Would anyone mind if I switched the current article picture of Penguin riding some weird bird for something a bit more realistic like this?
Not to cause a "DP shuffle" or anything, just to replace the comic cover of him riding the giant ugly bird. JackOfHearts 22:31, 1 October 2006 (UTC)
Fair use rationale for Image:TB-P.JPG
Image:TB-P.JPG is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.
Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Possible Contradiction
The introduction states that the Penguin does not theme his crimes around a psychotic obsession, but the biography (first paragraph) states that he commits crimes "with the theme of the various birds he loves". Although a literal reading does not imply a contradiction, a less stringent reading does indicate a contradiction. This may need some clarification. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Iain marcuson (talk • contribs) 06:15, August 25, 2007 (UTC)
- Given that the bio reflects a post crisis on infinite earths version, I've removed the sentence, as his 'nightclub owner with underword connections' characteristics are what readers now seee, not the golden/silver age bird themed thief. ThuranX 06:07, 26 August 2007 (UTC)

In Popular Culture
A section should be added. I can only think of one example, which is an episode of Cowboy Bebop where a criminal is extremely similar to Penguin, but I'm not really a fan of Batman, so there are probably a lot more. I couldn't make it because I only have one example. So, yeah, a "In Popular Culture" section should be added here, please. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 66.177.182.30 (talk) 01:00, 20 July 2008 (UTC)
- No, it certainly should not. First, you're speaking of a WP:OR violation, assuming two characters are related or connected. Second ,that's not popular culture at all. Third, such sections are typically frowned upon unless substantially built of Real World material. If you could find an interview with the Cowboy Bebop creators stating that they INTENDED a comparison, then it would matter. Otherwise, no. ThuranX (talk) 04:55, 20 July 2008 (UTC)

The penguin as mocking theme
Wikipedia guidelines (a little help pointing out the exact one, here) often expects the articles to talk about the theme's influence and cultural perceptions. That's why we often include sections about critical and public reception and references in popular culture, because it's a way to determine how impacting can a character, title, tv show, personality, etc. be.
Among all the comic book characters, just like Lex Luthor is often used an archetype of the egotistical mad scientist supervillain (like when Jon Stewart included him as part of Obama's "team of enemies", the Penguin is the archetype of evil, pompuos and ridiculous supervillain. Therefore, they have always been used a theme to mock people who share their trademark.
As the gathered examples put in evidence, the Penguin, compared to most supervillains, the penguin is a recurring theme in comedy. I think we should research some good sources to explore this unique aspect. --20-dude (talk) 09:28, 17 March 2009 (UTC)
Shreck's dialogue in Batman Returns
The line in the article about Shreck's dialogue meaning he was going to tempt Penguin with fried fish is wrong. Shreck said, before going to lure Penguin to run for mayor, that he had bigger fish to fry. Meaning he had more important matters to attend to. In the scene he had said it in he had been talking to his son about killing Selena Kyle a second time if she tried blackmailing him. Then he left saying he had bigger fish to fry. In the next scene it's clear he plans to use Penguin as a puppet mayor, that was his more important matters, convince Penguin to run for mayor so he could control Gotham from behind the scenes. He never meant he was going to go fry fish for him, he was using a slang term. -annonymous 1/10/2013 4:45 AM EST — Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.71.217.116 (talk) 09:45, 10 January 2013 (UTC)
Genius intellect?
I'm not saying it's a lie, and it's obvious he's pretty intelligent, but we don't see him (and Joker) creating things like Doctor Doom, Lex Luthor or Mister Freeze, or elaborating plans like Ra's Al Ghul.
- He's been said to have genius intellect through official sources, and that's all that matters. How his intelligence compares to other supervillains is irrelevant. TheStickMan[✆Talk] 17:42, 12 September 2013 (UTC)
- It is mentioned in some other reliable sources (which are in the list of references for this article, which you could have checked), and easily observed just by reading some of the stories he appears in. It is as simple as that. TheStickMan[✆Talk] 01:01, 13 September 2013 (UTC)
Meredith's Cough-laugh
I have it on fair authority that Burgess Meredith smoked like a chimney for decades before Batman, so surely that isn't the reason he cough-laughed. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 24.245.29.229 (talk • contribs) 00:36 17 August 2005 (UTC)
So? It's also a well documented fact that Meredith also created a special type of laugh for the Penguin which was meant to sound similar to an actual penguin call.--70.1.154.194 00:37, 25 September 2007 (UTC)
The story concerning Meredith's laugh derives from an interview, the excerpt of which is included in the Official Batman Batbook. Meredith had quit smoking for nearly a decade prior to his casting. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 205.143.221.2 (talk) 19:57, 30 September 2013 (UTC)
Gotham reference, picture?
Can someone include a reference to Oswald Cobblepot on Gotham as portrayed by Robin Lord Taylor? it's a very different portrayal than Penguin has ever been portrayed and I think it should be included. Thepoodlechef (talk) 18:07, 29 October 2014 (UTC)

Penguin (comics) → Penguin (character) – It should be moved to Penguin (character) to follow WP:PRECISION and "unambiguously define the topical scope of the article". --Relisted. Dekimasuよ! 02:27, 12 November 2014 (UTC) --76.175.67.121 (talk) 17:07, 5 November 2014 (UTC)
- Support. Penguin is not only a comics character, having appeared in two films, two live-action television series, as well as cartoons etc. 209.211.131.181 (talk) 02:58, 6 November 2014 (UTC)
- Support per above. Much clearer, and more accurate given he has appeared in other media. —innotata 06:20, 6 November 2014 (UTC)
- Oppose per WP:NCCOMICS, which states, "...the agreed general disambiguation phrase used for articles related to comics, including creators, publications, and content, is '(comics)'." I also find that "character" reduces recognizability, which is a characteristic to consider per WP:CRITERIA. I understand that this figure has appeared in other media, but his most recurring presence is in the comics. Other kinds of appearances are secondary. If we are to discuss this further, we should also include similar topics like Joker (comics). Erik (talk | contrib) (ping me) 15:34, 8 November 2014 (UTC)
- Alternate suggest Penguin (DC Comics character) instead -- 67.70.35.44 (talk) 05:15, 11 November 2014 (UTC)
- Oppose since Penguin (comic book) does not exist. Moving to proposed target causes unnecessary disambiguation at this time. Steel1943 (talk) 03:24, 12 November 2014 (UTC)
- Oppose. The Penguin originated from the comics and is most famous for the comics. Using "(comics)" as a disambiguation is standard for such articles. JIP | Talk 09:04, 16 November 2014 (UTC)

Oswald III?
I think I recall seeing on a VHS box for Batman: TAS that his full name is Oswald Chesterfiled Cobblepot III? Is there any other source that he is the III? Emperor001 (talk) 03:21, 6 December 2014 (UTC)
Gotham section
The subsection detailing the character's appearance in Gotham is getting too large. Might I suggest narrowing it down to a couple of sentences, a synopsis of the character's role in the show rather than a detailed analysis of every single thing he does in the show? Treybien (talk) 18:35 29 October 2014
I agree, all of the characters from Gotham appear to need a cleanup in this regard, it's just getting out of hand. Might I suggest we start creating actual pages for the Gotham versions if people insist on a complete summary. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 50.69.2.64 (talk) 04:44, 13 February 2015 (UTC)

jacket types
- He prefers formal wear such as a top hat, monocle and tuxedo, especially of the "white-tie-and-tails" design.
Rephrase that? A tuxedo is a tailless dinner jacket. —Tamfang (talk) 22:54, 16 May 2017 (UTC)
LGBT character listing
I'm not sure that it's appropriate to list Penguin as an 'LGBT character"; he's not at all in the LGBT spectrum in the comics, and Robin Lord Taylor has said that he does not consider the character to be "gay per se". Thoughts? Treybien (talk) 18:51 9 February 2017 (UTC)
- Oswald is in love with another man, and Robin has referred to the storyline as queer representation. --DrBat (talk) 02:40, 9 October 2017 (UTC)
