change to:
Paul Andrew is an English fashion designer, currently based between Paris and New York City. He launched his eponymous women's footwear line in September 2012. (1) and in 2014 became the first footwear designer to win the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund (2). Andrew’s minimalist modernist sensibility explores the discourse between tech and craft that comes naturally to him: his mother worked in the computer industry and his father was an upholsterer to the British royal family at Windsor Castle (3). In September 2016, Andrew was named Women's Footwear Design Director at Salvatore Ferragamo. (4) He is the first individual to hold this title in the brand's history. In February 2019, Andrew was named Creative Director of both men’s and women’s categories at Salvatore Ferragamo after having served as Women’s Creative Director since October 2017 (5) and consequently elected to shutter his eponymous shoe brand whose buzz had attracted the historic Italian house in the first place (3). During his tenure as Salvatore Ferragamo’s Creative Director, Andrew notably designed and launched the company’s monogram motif, The Gancini, which remains a signature emblem and cashcow for the house to this day. For The Gancini launch, Andrew collaborated with influencer Bryanboy on a series of mini-videos that wittily interpreted The Gancini’s modernity and chicness. Bryan enlisted a group of fellow fashion talent including Aureta, Caro Daur, Carlo Sestini, Diet Prada (Lindsey Schuyler and Tony Liu), Prince Pelayo, Susie Bubble and Tamu McPherson (6). Andrew also hosted a dinner in New York for the launch of the new Gancini monogram with Rich the Kid, Debby Ryan, Elizabeth Lail and other friends of the house in February 2019.(7) For his debut menswear collection, in June 2019, Andrew chose to show the collection in Ferragamo’s home city of Florence. It was also the first time a fashion show has been allowed in the monumental Piazza della Signoria, a central location for Florentine political life since the 14th century. (8) A diverse casting across ethnicities and generations served as one of the show’s strong points. The event also had a turn of starpower: Actor Josh Lucas, Sotheby’s European chairman Michael Berger-Sandhofer, and legendary graphic designer Peter Saville all made an appearance. Model and actor Hero Fiennes-Tiffin, the nephew of Ralph Fiennes and the face of Ferragamo, closed the show. (8) For the Spring/Summer 2021 collection, Andrew designed and debuted the Viva (9) which became a best selling style for the brand. The campaign, featuring six new-gen movers and shakers, included actors Camila Mendes, Debby Ryan, and Kiersey Clemons; comedian Olivia Sui; and models Paloma Elsesser and Dara Allen (9). Embracing and showcasing diversity in casting became a signature of Andrew’s tenure at Ferragamo. For his SS21 collection Andrew notably collaborated with director Luca Guadagnino on a moody Hitchcockian collection film (10) that showcased during Milan fashion week. The film went on to win Best Costume and Best Art Direction at the 2021 Berlin Fashion Film Festival (11). For AW21 Andrew created a digital presentation that gave a sci-fi spectacle, which showcased his final collection for the house with a film shot as a CGI-aided virtual reality. For the accompanying campaign, Andrew shot a film-within-a-film, returning to the futuristic world built then with cinematic legend Wim Wenders behind the lens. (12) Andrew left Ferragamo in May 2021 (13), and relaunched his namesake brand in February 2022 with a collection of fashion shoes for women (3) (14).
