Conflict of Interest editing

Don't see what the problem is. All information is sourced and referenced. Unless Wiki is only for publishing negative information about individuals then I don't see the problem. Perhaps Wiki isn't objective and I've missed the point of it. This note is for two purposes: firstly to note on the talkpage the problems with COI editing that are evident from the page history, and secondly to make a direct plea to the anonymous editor making these edits, given that their dynamic IP address makes talkpage contact impossible. I would first refer the user to User talk:111.220.249.29#Patricia Petersen, where I outlined concerns regarding editing patterns. Secondly, I would point out that editing in areas where one may have a conflict of interest requires caution, and that editing to promote one's own interests is disallowed. If you are the subject of the article and have concerns with the content, you should read the advice for dealing about articles about yourself. This article has been protected from editing for editing in violation of these policies in the past, and it can happen again.

Also, there are some more technical concerns:

• Using the show preview button before making an edit can prevent the need for large numbers of consecutive edits, which makes it easier to keep track of different revisions.
• Per the Manual of style, we do not use academic titles in articles. There is no need to add "Dr" to the beginning of Petersen's name.
• Ideally, articles should be written in prose paragraphs. The separation of the article into a so-called "laundry list" of consecutive, unrelated, one-sentence paragraphs is undesireable.
• References are added with inline syntax, see WP:CITEFOOT for a tutorial.

An IP editor has attempted to make significant changes on a number of occasions, and I am explaining why I have again removed some changes in order to start a discussion about Wikipedia's procedures and what is best for the article.

• In the lead, the new text "media personality, playwright and author" is not sourced (what reliable source uses these terms to describe the subject?).
• The text "lectures in Economics at a university in Queensland" needs a source because otherwise it is just made up (it may well be true, but material must be verifiable). It is not satisfactory to edit a WP:BLP article based on personal knowledge (actually, that's not satisfactory for any article, but particularly not for a BLP).
• This source[1] does not verify the text "rejecting an offer to be the candidate".

--There is no evidence of Dr Petersen lecturing in economics or politics at JCU. The search offered as evidence and source for this information merely lists her as a JCU Brisbane Teaching Staff. She is not listed as a lecturer in any faculty. "Splitting the Labor vote"

This is an opinion, and not fact. Comment has been deleted. Dr Petersen is very anti-Labor, and as a result would not likely attract many Labor voters. Recent changes

Have once again removed the references to Dr Petersen 'splitting the Labor vote' as there is no evidence of this. Petersen and her supporters are quite anti-Labor and therefore Petersen would not lure Labor voters. Ian Berry was elected as part of a wider LNP swing that delivered a decisive majority and left Labor with only 7 out of 89 seats.

Continual re-edits

Someone has been continually re-adding the references to Dr Petersen being the leader of a political party, Australian Independents. There is no verifiable source for this, and no political party by that name is registered with the Queensland Electoral Commission or Australian Electoral Commission. Also - there is no evidence that Dr Petersen 'split' the Labor vote in the seat of Ipswich. Dr Petersen is vocally anti-ALP, so it is unlikely that many that would vote for her would previously be ALP voters. The seat of Ipswich saw a 21.2% swing to conservative parties (LNP and KAP) which would have accounts for the vast majority of the swing against Rachel Nolan. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 57.70.27.233 (talk) 01:31, 31 October 2012 (UTC)

A party does not have to be registered to be worth a mention, and there are plenty of sources for this one (not that it deserves its own article or anything). Take your point on the political party. Being that Dr Petersen has merely stated that she plans to create such a party makes me delete any mention to it though. There is nothing to show that the party exists other than Dr Petersen mentioning it on social media lot. Edits have removed material highlighting a recent election loss. These have been reinserted. New Edit

Hello. I have updated the Patricia Petersen page to make it more biographical and relevant. I am aware of the previous edits and revisions on this page and the accusations that come with it. I believe the content I have added is relevant to Dr Petersen's numerous attempts to enter parliament. There is no salacious information included, just a history of Dr Petersen's attempts to be an elected official. I have noticed that my edits were reverted and with no good reason given as to why. I would ask that before someone revert this back to the earlier entry (with far less information on Petersen's electoral history and numerous references that no longer exist) that they engage with me as to why they are reverting my edit.--SnapMcCrackle (talk) 06:40, 20 April 2016 (UTC)

You are right to discuss concerns here about the removal of edits that you made. I have no interest in the subject of this page (apart from fixing a spelling error) but have now checked all the edits you made and the citations given for each one. I can confirm they are all valid and well-referenced. I support your reversion of the unhelpful content removal by Choise, which was accompanied by the edit summary of 'political bigotry' which is equally inappropriate. FWIW, I have not even looked at the content of the additions before reverting. Something that the recent IP editor is doing has broken the references multiple times, and it is easier to recover from that breaking by reverting than by doing the arduous re-linking of each reference. – Jonesey95 (talk) 15:54, 11 December 2017 (UTC)

Semi-protected edit request on 7 April 2019

The reference provided for this statement (ref 26) in the text "Petersen admitted to reporting Cr Tully to the Crime and Misconduct Commission and was subsequently charged by police after Cr Tully accused her of threatening him" DOES NOT in any way shape or form make any reference to a Crime and Misconduct Commission or verify the statement. Petersen was a Visiting Scholar in the Philosophy Department at New York University in 1997, Visiting Fellow at St Andrews University Scotland in 2000, Visiting Fellow at the Tibetan Institute of Higher Learning Varanasi India in 2001, a Visiting Fellow and Residential Lecturer at Queens College, University of Melbourne in 2001, a Fellow and Residential Lecturer at St Hilda’s College, University of Melbourne in 2002 and has been an Honorary Fellow at the University of Melbourne since 2002.

Dr Petersen has lectured in Arts and Business at the University of Melbourne, RMIT, University of New South Wales, University of Notre Dame, Central Queensland University and James Cook University.

Patricia Petersen, on weekends, at the request of parents, looks after aboriginal children from socially and economically disadvantaged backgrounds. She teaches the children art, music, literacy and numeracy and assists them with their homework.

Petersen also teaches women and children self-defence on a voluntary basis.

Petersen won the "QT Youth Cares Award” for "outstanding contribution to the community” as a teenager.
