[edit]Normally, when one creates a new page, he/she also gives it a category. What cat should this article have? -24.118.86.56.48.14 01:15, 4 August 2005 (UTC)
This page soesn't seem to be too diferent from the Pass Law page, so why don't we just delete and redirect? -24.118.48.14 01:18, 4 August 2005 (UTC)
What is the source for the so-called "Pass Laws Act" of 1952? This legislation is not mentioned by this name in any standard histories of SA. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.109.113.209 (talk) 04:24, 23 January 2008 (UTC)
1923
[edit]Pass laws were in effect in the Union long before 1923, some were in effect even before the creation of the Union. --NJR_ZA (talk) 06:16, 12 December 2009 (UTC)
- That's correct, but the following statement in the article is misleading:"The Black population were required to carry these pass books with them when outside their compounds or designated areas." The truth is that they had to have that pass, if they were *IN* certain areas.--41.151.61.226 (talk) 15:36, 6 September 2012 (UTC)
Summary section changes
[edit]The summary section is incongruous with the rest of the article. I suggest:
- moving or copying information not contained in the rest of the page to other sections
- renaming or shortening the section
- consolidating the comments on broad social impact of these laws (e.g. "Therefore, there has always been a tension between the white and black community in South Africa.") to follow or precede the section -- or move such comments to another section, perhaps the introduction
- separating some parts into their own sections. The text about differential impact by gender, for instance, could easily be its own section.
