Translation
[edit]I fully agree with the translating nuances brought up by two previous gentlemen. Ojczyzna is most definietly Fatherland, and "Pan" was a title of nobility in Polish the way "sir" was in English (I say was because these days any lowlife gets called "sir" when he purchases a 40 at a neighborhood liquor-store). As a matter of fact "Pan" means Lord, as Poles praise "Pan" when they go to pray on sunday. Pozdrawiam --Rob Aleksandrowicz (talk) 09:18, 6 March 2010 (UTC)
Homeland?
[edit]I don't speak Polish, but I'm curious: I thought Ojczyzno usually was translated as "fatherland" — No?
I notice the German Wiki version of this article translates it as Heimat, which would be rendered "homeland" in English. Sca (talk) 18:28, 22 April 2008 (UTC)
That's correct ojciec = father, so ojczyzno can be translated as fatherland. 74.0.89.210 (talk) 05:57, 18 May 2009 (UTC)
Mister Thaddeus?
[edit]I think that rendering the Polish address form "Pan" with English "Mister" is quite erroneus. First, "Mister" is an address usen for commoners, not nobility or gentry (and Tadeusz is a noble), second it is normally not used with the first name in English. "Master" would be a much better choice. Christopher
Why epic, why Epopea
[edit]The Story is light, sometimes funny, seams to be more similar like idyll, nice and pretty. It is about difficult times, but never (expect Napoleon arriving) about serious matters. Notice, everything there is old, dwarfish with no future. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 217.98.82.2 (talk) 21:04, 23 September 2008 (UTC)
the 13th book
[edit]Shouldn't there be something mentioned about the famous 13th book? Norum 21:06, 1 February 2010 (UTC)

"geopoliticized" - hard to understand jargon?
[edit]> the 19th-century concept of nationality had not yet been geopoliticized
I don't really know what this means. It feels jargony. The link to geopolitics doesn't help much. Is it about a separation between ethnic group and state/geography? 2A02:A311:803A:4180:9DFC:13A3:7DF0:94B4 (talk) 21:11, 6 September 2023 (UTC)
