"Combat zone"
I suspect the link to "combat zone" in this article is wrong, unless it is saying that the only place more violent than Palm Island is Boston
- Odd. I've linked to War the best solution I could think of (looking in Category:War)--ZayZayEM 00:13, 29 Nov 2004 (UTC)
I question the claim entirely. I am sure Palm Island is violent but parts of Jamaica (and other nations) are so violent there are murders every day and they are not considered war or combat zones. Robertbrockway 20:40, Nov 30 2004 (UTC)
This whole entry paints a pretty grim picture to what is quite a beautiful place with an interesting history. One problem is a shortage of references available on the web about palm that dont refer solely to the riot.
- By percentage of the population, it IS the most violent place on earth. I'm sure more people die in some american ghetto in one minute than the deaths on palm island over 50 years but comparison by population still makes it the most violent place on earth, outside a warzone of course.
- Well the article doesn't make the claim, Helen Hughes simply reported what she found in the Guinness Book.Garrie 22:46, 22 January 2007 (UTC)
Too many images
There are currently too many images on the page relative to the length of text on the article. I suggest that someone decides which images are the most relevant and remove the others so that the number of images suits the page length, keep them on a user page temporarily if need be. Ansell 10:50, 8 April 2006 (UTC)
You probably checked it before I finished adding the text with the images.
thoughts??? --Phenss 11:27, 8 April 2006 (UTC)
- I probably did, sorry, I am still not sure it needs quite that many but it definitely looks better than when I commented before. Ansell 11:30, 8 April 2006 (UTC)
Why are the images dotted all over the place, with some so small that you can't make them out? --WikiCats 14:48, 8 April 2006 (UTC) Ansell & Wikicats thanks much better. This was my first attempt at editing (outside sandbox) I had a large number of photos I took when I was there (pre-riots). I hope others might add to the info to lengthen the article which will look better with the images. --Phenss 00:41, 9 April 2006 (UTC)
Thanks
Hello and thanks to everyone that has provided hints.
This is my first entry and I still have some trouple with some of the links going to wrong Wiki's. I dont know how to seperate eg.. One of teh links goes to an island in WA but I want to create one for Qld.
Also how can I publish this to a wider community for them to review and update??
thanks Peter
Slightly unclear statement
"The settlement/mission was originally located at Hull River near Tully in 1918 until it was blown away and the settlement relocated to its present location."
Could someone provide a date for the original and the final date that it was at Hull River? It seems a big ambiguous at the current time. Ansell 12:18, 3 May 2006 (UTC)
Cleanup
This article needs a cleanup. Poor layout. QazPlm 00:35, 19 May 2006 (UTC)

I have replaced the above link by searching for 21 April 2006 and confirming the report is mentioned in Hansard on that date.Garrie 22:43, 22 January 2007 (UTC)

Tambo
I moved some sections and cleaned up some grammar/spelling today. I couldn't understand the relevance of the section about 'Tambo', so I've moved it lower in the article. Frankly I think it should be removed, but somebody more familiar with Palm Island should decide. PKT 18:35, 3 August 2006 (UTC)
- This was moved here following an AfD - it should remain, it is a well-verifiable part of the article which deals with a positive - the return of aboriginal remains to their ancestoral home.Garrie 23:45, 22 January 2007 (UTC)
Can we please find a source for the Quote, if you enlarge the photo of the headstone it clearly does not say what is quoted in the article. So is the text taken from the back of the headstone or a explanatory marker near the headstone?... When Phenss originally wrote the text here he stated at the end: 'The text above is located on a memorial situated on Palm Island. Ansell then removed a section of the quote(?) as POV here. Ansell then reworded the last sentence here removing the inference that the whole text was taken from a memorial.Phenss then changed the text to state that it was a direct quote here
Maybe the quote should be lost completely and replaced with a summery, with 'a memorial situated on Palm Island' as the source, although I don't know if that is sufficient detail. WikiTownsvillian 04:32, 26 January 2007 (UTC)
poor layout?
the layout seems fine to me, i think the tag can be taken off. Alexandermiller 06:23, 15 August 2006 (UTC)
- Still not quite up to WP's standards, IMHO. Is information relating to Tambo really worthy of a separate section? Should the WW2 Catalina base and Cyclone Justin sections be included as sub-sections of History? QazPlm 06:41, 15 August 2006 (UTC)
i don't agree
I have lived in Palm Island in the last few months and honestly I think that the Island and the efforts of all the Council about the violence issues could deserve a bit more respect from the article. I don't think that at the moment the situation of the Island is like the one depicted in the article. The situation if full of hope about the future and good things are happening. I think a section about the Hospital and the churches in the Island could be useful.
