Rationale for an old move
[edit]I have realized that a move I made over 8 years ago without an edit summary, changing the name of the theater from Palace Theatre (Broadway) to Palace Theatre (New York City), may have necessitated a bit of an explanation, and it would be ill-advised to go without one. First, the "Broadway" title clarifies that this is a Broadway theater, rather than a generic NYC theater. Additionally, it would be consistent with other Broadway theaters of the same vein like Lyceum Theatre (Broadway) and Majestic Theatre (Broadway).
The reason that I moved it all these years ago, however, is because unlike the Lyceum or Majestic, the Palace didn't have a predecessor or a co-existing theater with the same name elsewhere. The United Palace is a theater that's physically on Broadway in Washington Heights, but it is sufficiently distinguished from this article by a hatnote. Additionally, moving this page back to the "Broadway" disambiguator may confuse readers per WP:PRECISION. The Lyceum's predecessor was on Park Avenue South and the Majestic's co-existing theater was at Columbus Circle, which is physically along Broadway but at a distinct intersection. By contrast, both the Broadway-theater Palace and the non-theatrical United Palace are physically on the street named Broadway. This comment is just for future reference in case anyone was wondering about that old move. – Epicgenius (talk) 14:25, 6 December 2021 (UTC)
Cut coverage future developments that haven't happened yet
[edit]I deleted a number of assertions about things that were "going to happen" at the palace. Epicgenius reverted, claiming that in the meantime, some of them have happened. Then please make the appropriate edits. In general, though, Wikipedia does not cover the future, and is not a news service for micro-details about ongoing renovation projects. -- Melchior2006 (talk) 18:26, 28 December 2023 (UTC)
- @Melchior2006, I agree in general with regards to predicting the future, but merely listing general plans is different from asserting that these things will happen. Wikipedia does allow coverage of future developments, provided that these are verifiable; according to WP:FUTURE, "It is appropriate to report discussion and arguments about the prospects for success of future proposals and projects or whether some development will occur, if discussion is properly referenced."I have cut some of the more minor details, as well as info that's already covered in the TSX Broadway article. For some of the other details you removed, I restored them because I thought these were necessary for a comprehensive overview of the topic. – Epicgenius (talk) 21:21, 28 December 2023 (UTC)
