GA Review
[edit]- This review is transcluded from Talk:Palace Hotel, Perth/GA1. The edit link for this section can be used to add comments to the review.
I nominated this article as I think it meets all of the GA criteria. I believe that it covers everything of significance that has been recorded in reliable sources regarding the building and the site, having researched in libraries and the web. Any feedback for improvement would be greatly appreciated. –Moondyne 00:42, 12 December 2008 (UTC)
GA Review: On hold
[edit]I have reviewed this article according to the requirements of the GA criteria and have placed the article on hold until the following issues are addressed. As you address each issue, either strike through the statement/place a check mark next to the issue and state how you addressed it (if necessary). If you disagree with a particular issue, state your rationale for doing so after the issue in question so a compromise can be reached.
- Looking at other GAs, there appears to be several types of infoboxes for buildings. Find and add the most appropriate one for the building.
- Since the second paragraph in the intro is only a single line, either add it to one of the other paragraphs or expand on it. Removing single sentences that stand alone helps to improve the flow of the article.
- "one of the most beautiful and elegant hotels in Australasia"[2]." Inline citations go directly after the punctuation. Make sure to fix all occurrences.
- "It operated as licensed premises from 1897 until 1981." This seems to conflict with the dates in the first paragraph of the intro. Consider moving this statement with the other relevant information in the first paragraph.
- I just want to be sure, is "storeys" Australian spelling? If not, use stories. If so, ignore this comment.
- "Following the death of Mr Leeder..." Mr can probably be removed as well as Mrs a few sentences later.
- "It boasted having "electric light and gas laid on in every room", as well as electric bells and speaking tubes "conveniently placed everywhere"[7] and was reputed to have the first lift in Perth as well as 10 bathrooms serving the 50 bedrooms on the first floor." This has two citations for the same source. Remove the one after the quote.
- I think the article would flow better if the "cultural significance" section was moved to the last section.
- "A glass covered atrium joins the tower on the former hotel so that the tower entrances double as undercover access to the building.[22][1]" Move the citations so that they are in numerical order.
- Are there any notable external links that can be added to the article?
Altogether, this article was informative on the topic and is well-sourced. Good job with finding so many free images to include in the article. I have left the article on hold for seven days for the issues to be addressed. These issues should be easy to fix and not take too long. If they are fixed in this time, I will pass the article. If not, the article may be failed and can be renominated at WP:GAN. If necessary to address the above issues, and progress is being made, an extension may be allowed. If you have any questions or when you are done, let me know on my talk page and I'll get back to you as soon as I can. Happy editing! --Nehrams2020 (talk) 01:50, 15 January 2009 (UTC)
- 1-7 and 9 appear to have been addressed. "Storeys" is correct Australian English according to Macquarie Australian Dictionary 3rd ed. (1997). Orderinchaos 02:20, 15 January 2009 (UTC)
- I agree. I think that #8 doesn't make a great deal of difference either way actually. YellowMonkey (bananabucket) 03:46, 15 January 2009 (UTC)
GA Passed
[edit]Good job with addressing the above issues. I would still recommend moving the section as it talks about the impact of the building prior to the actual construction/history of the building itself. Keep an eye out for any external links that can be used to guide the readers to further information. Continue to improve the article, making sure that all new information is properly sourced and neutral.
Also, to anyone that is reading this review, please consider reviewing an article or two at WP:GAN to help with the very large backlog. Instructions can be found here. Each new reviewer that helps to review articles will help to reduce the time that articles wait to be reviewed. If you are new to reviewing and want to familiar yourself with the process, study the GA criteria, look at other editors' reviews, and leave any questions you have at Wikipedia talk:Good article nominations if you need feedback while performing a review.
Keep up the good work, and I hope that you continue to bring articles up to good article status. If anyone disagrees with this review, an alternate opinion can be sought at Good article reassessment. If you have any further questions about this review, let me know on my talk page and I'll get back to you as soon as I can. I have updated the article history to reflect this review.
