PBS Kids Channel

An anon tried to move this to PBS Kids Channel, but did so by duplicating content, which made the primary page one that no longer had any history of the recent (survived) VfD. I don't disagree with the move, but just wanted that history on the primary page, so the new page was deleted, and the move done in the more traditional way (using the WikiMedia move feature). Dash and Dot

Dash is on the Miss Lori and Hooper block. Verification at: http://www.pbs.org/parents/preschool/about.html . Dot is not on the Miss Lori and Hooper block, but at http://www.primalscreen.com/home.html , click on THE WORK, then NETWORK BRANDING, and select PBS KIDS. Actually, Dash and Dot are now both integral parts of the "Miss Lori and Hooper"block, as of Season 2--they're part of "computer time" and "art time" segments and are used to introduce games and viewer-submitted artwork.Gladys j cortez 00:05, 15 November 2007 (UTC)

Syndicated Shows

I think the attribute "(syndicated -- not distributed by PBS)" should be kept, because I don't think they had any PBS logos after them. One reason why is the original PBS article uses this, and another thing is, it could be truthful. About "PBS Kids 2004"

Shouldn't it be "PBS Kids 2003"? Because some people might feel confused about it right now, and we can't have two 2004 idents. And just what is "PBS Kids 2004 (er, 2003)"?

"Logos" should be deleted from these lists

The deletions are not accidental. Images belonging to others can only be used on Wikipedia under limited circumstances. Adding a gallery of logos without any justification leaves Wikipedia open to charges of copyright or trademark infringement. Trivialist (talk) 02:16, 22 August 2009 (UTC)

Copyedits and idents

I helped a little too. I went through and changed things that didn't make sense. About the idents, on PBS Kids, after evry show they show idents. So it's kind of important.PKGO 18:53, 14 June 2007 (UTC)

I have to agree with Kat, what makes the ident spots so important that it warrants taking up half the article? The lengthy explanations of minute details beg the question: why are the announcements of upcoming shows more important than the entire format of the time block? If anything it should be in its own article, but I'm not sure it's relevant enough for its own article. Also, the whole section seems a bit like original research, with few sources cited (that's not to say it's inaccurate, but there are no sources cited). So I propose that the entire section be summarized into a sentence or two. --68.62.239.224 04:57, 23 June 2007 (UTC)

I personally think the whole "idents" section is of questionable relevance, and I think it can go. Although the amount of work researching and writing it makes me reluctant to recommend tossing it completely, let's ask ourselves: What importance does it contribute? Is anyone really going to look for this info, ever? If they do, will they need ALL THAT INFO? With data as exhaustive and infinitesimally detailed as this, and with its minimal impact on the relevance of the topic at hand, I think we can cut it without harming the article as a whole. Non PBS Shows

PBS Kids GO! Channel

Someone wrote the sentence after I wrote about the PBS Kids GO! Channel on the PBS Kids article! When is the PBS Kids GO! Channel launched? I saw that there's a launch for the year 2008. But PBS took a long time making the PBS Kids GO! Channel until 2008. I don't understand this. The PBS Kids GO! Channel has to launch in 2006 or 2007. [User: Nate Speed]

Sections and bits needing work

I'd clean these up but I don't know where to start:

PBS Kids Bookworm Bunch

In September 2000, PBS Kids launched a three-hour block PBS Kids Bookworm Bunch to compete against Nick Jr. on CBS. The block's shows were Corduroy, George Shrinks, Elliot Moose, Marvin the Tap-Dancing Horse, Seven Little Monsters, and Timothy Goes to School. Then Corduroy and Elliot Moose were cancelled. In September 2004, the block got discontinued for shows airing October, then Seven Little Monsters got discontinued after in the half-hour time period as the Berenstain Bears. George Shrinks is airing, on some stations.

First: "to compete against Nick Jr" sounds like original research--do you have a citation to verify that info? Second: do you have approx dates of the cancellations? The last three sentences aren't entirely...sentences, exactly. Not to be mean, but: ?????

George to George On February 19, 2007, there was a George to George special on PBS Kids with Curious George.

What made this a "special"? It sounds like "episodes of Curious George"--or did it have something to do with Presidents' Day (hence the "George to George" reference--George WASHINGTON and CURIOUS George)? Anyhow--as it stands, this section doesn't say much...

On the ads for all of them, it seems to have a slogan: Friday, the day after Thanksgiving.

I'm not sure that was intended as a slogan; it might just be an indication of when the shows air. Same with this: "This Program was made possible by your support of your local PBS Station." AFAIK, that's a boilerplate statement that's made at the beginning and end of all PBS shows, not just kids' shows; it's less a "motto" than a piece of information.

I removed the idents section, since I heard no arguments against removing it; if that offends anyone, I'll apologize in advance. However, if you choose to revert it, please don't revert the whole edit, as I also cleaned up a lot of formatting issues in the same session, and though removing the idents section is a matter of opinion, the formatting stuff was definitely for the better. Images

So, reading the Fair Use guidelines (along with some of the comments above), it seems like our logo images don't conform; Dot and Dash are not the main logo of PBS Kids, nor are they the main topic of the article, nor do the images fulfill this:

Significance. Non-free content is used only if its presence would significantly increase readers' understanding of the topic, and its omission would be detrimental to that understanding.

Repeatedly placing previously-deleted, non-encyclopedic, non-consensus material in an article, especially under an anon IP, is generally not considered good form. If you feel passionately that your edit ABSOLUTELY POSITIVELY belongs in this article, then please register an account--then we can discuss it further on a talk page. Or better yet, make your point right here, where everyone can see it. Simply replacing deleted content again and again, anonymously, with no explanation, just makes you look like a vandal, instead of a person with a strongly-held point. PBS Show??

Was the green dragon the main character, or just one of many? I know there was a dragon (dinosaur, actually) on "Between the Lions"--Heath the Thesaurus--and IIRC he was green. Other than that, no clue. Gladys J Cortez 22:49, 2 July 2008 (UTC)

Ceased operation?

I'm a bit confused about the status of PBS Kids. This article claims that it has ceased operation in 2005, yet their website [1] continues to contain information about new shows that have been released since 2005. This page on the PBS corporate site [2] also still uses "PBS Kids" as a separate trademark.

It appears to me that it never really was a "channel", but rather a name under which PBS distributes it's children's television products to local stations. If this is so, this really needs to be made clear in this article, with appropriate citations. Clamshell (talk) 16:15, 28 November 2008 (UTC)

No, there WAS a channel at one time, which was made available to cable systems but which never really seemed to take off. There's a difference between the PBS Kids CHANNEL and PBS Kids--pbskids.org links you to the PBS network's page for its current kids' shows. There's also PBS Kids Sprout, which is kind of--but not exactly--the new version of the PBS Kids CHANNEL. You won't see a link to Sprout on pbskids.org, because it's a separate, commercial entity--not publicly-funded, like PBS and (formerly) the PBS Kids Channel.GJC 23:25, 28 November 2008 (UTC)

Okay, I see. And I also see this is clarified at the top of the article and I should have been paying closer attention :). I think my confusion came from that last sentence in the second paragraph which talks about local stations continuing to provide their own "PBS Kids Channel" -- at least with WHA whose offerings I see as more related to the first definition. No. PBS Kids, for the 10th time we've already told you under your IP editing, does not exist as a separate channel. The channel you're thinking of was just a 24/7 feed of programs which could be carried as a subchannel or the station could use for their internal recording purposes. List of shows

The current list of shows broadcast by PBS Kids seems to be edited a lot with incorrect shows. Many shows, such as Miffy and Friends, are NOT distributed by PBS, and therefore should not be included on the list. Other shows, such as Postcards from Buster or Mister Rogers, no longer air on some stations. However, they are still aired in some select areas, and a still considered PBS Kids programs. These should remain on the list until that particular program is no longer broadcast. Of course, shows like the Backyardigans do NOT air on PBS at all, and should never even make it to the list. Please don't add shows that are on other networks.

Another section to add to the current and past sections, could be an online section. Toopy & Bino, The Greens, Fizzy's Lunch Lab, and others are all exclusively online at this time. Should we make a new sub-heading for this? PKGO (talk) 03:11, 5 November 2009 (UTC)

Looks like the PBS Kids channel began in 1999, not 1995

In the History section of the PBS Kids article it says "Along with the block of programming on PBS, PBS Kids was a separate television network, founded in 1995, and was targeted to children aged 2-7 years. The PBS Kids Channel ran for six years and was largely funded by DirecTV. The channel ceased broadcast on September 26, 2005, in favor of a new commercial joint venture, PBS Kids Sprout, which is a partnership owned by Comcast About half of PBS TV stations still program a children's channel themselves over their multicasting service."

The aspects of the 1995 launch of the PBS Kids channel is incorrect. It did begin in 1999.

Left out shows

I belive some shows, like Fetch!, have been left out of the article. Also, I think that a seprate list should be made for those TV show that aren't currently airing new shows, but still being shown on TV. PBS The Game Programs

I just removed the "PBS The Game Programs" section. It was added recently and was completely unreferenced, and I couldn't find any significant references to it in my own search. I moved the programs that were listed there back to the "Past Programs" section, as they were all legitimately PBS Kids programs. PBS Kids GO! is part of PBS Kids

There is clearly some confusion by some editors who regularly add/remove PBS Kids GO! programs and sections about them. PBS Kids GO! is part of PBS Kids. On the official PBS Kids site, all the PBS Kids GO! programs are listed there as well...because they are part of PBS Kids. PBS Kids includes BOTH the PBS Kids Preschool Block and PBS Kids GO! (and PBS Kids Sprout for that matter). I added a comment under the "Current Programs" section to clarify that. The list of programs should always include both. If someone wants to see separate info about one of those categories specifically, then he or she can go to the articles dedicated to them: PBS Kids Preschool Block, PBS Kids GO!, and PBS Kids Sprout. -Dwimble (talk) 18:08, 26 January 2012 (UTC)

Daniel Tiger's Neighborhood

I added Daniel Tiger's Neighborhood to the Current Programs section, with a reference to the PBS press release that states it is coming to the PBS Kids preschool block in the fall. However, I wasn't really sure if I should add it, since it isn't airing yet, even though it is currently in production. If there ends up being a consensus that it doesn't belong there, then I'll remove it or move it. Perhaps to a "Future Programs" section, for confirmed, announced programs? I just didn't think another whole section for the one or two programs that might be added during any given year was necessary. Has this show been forgotten? Related to Make way for Noddy?

I seem to recall a show involving a weasel, Jack-in-the-box, goose, two miniature figures, a store manager, and some children that were on occasionally. My sister remembers a wise rocking horse, though I can't seem to place that character. We believe Noddy might have been on that show, but Make Way for Noddy does not involve all of the characters. I also seem to remember 1 episode in particular featuring a song "Stop and listen to the Music, because the weasel was being bad again. It is possible, but not likely that I missed it on the list, but if that is so, the title is very unfamiliar. PBS Kids programs VS APT programs

I will be attempting to recreate the program list for PBS Kids programs.

Maybe it is not clear: Just because a program airs on a PBS station, does NOT make it a PBS program. Many local PBS stations choose to air programs from APT (American Public Television) and other public television program providers. Therefore, these programs are NOT PBS Kids programs. These shows DO NOT belong on this page. PBS Kids programming will always have a PBS Kids identification cue at the end of the program. APT programs have appropriately an APT identification at the end. Most (however not all!) PBS Kids programs will have a companion website at pbskids.org

Restored Upcoming programs section

Restored the "Upcoming Programs" section that someone removed recently without explanation, and I removed the erroneous note that was associated with it and fixed the reference. Hi, I think you might have missed my explanation, which is in this edit. I deleted the Upcoming programs section, because it didn't have any references. I went back a few revisions prior, and saw that it did at one time have a reference, but it returned a 404 error. Thus, "Upcoming programs are unsourced. The last sourced program had a ref that 404d. Removed "reruns" statements and dates

Under the Former Programming section I removed several statements such as: "currently in reruns" and "reruns until x". Those statements are inconsistent, never sourced, and not particularly relevant. Past programs come and go all the time as reruns on stations (PBS and otherwise) in syndication, and there is no easy way to verify them or keep them accurately up to date, plus it's hard to see the point of those statements in this article. That info is more appropriate for a TV listings site or in one of the many "List of programs broadcast by..." articles on Wikipedia. I think the statement at the top of the section that some of the former programs "may still air as reruns on some PBS stations or other channels" is sufficient. -Dwimble (talk) 20:34, 8 August 2013 (UTC)
