Synonymy with Phalaenopsis
[edit]@Peter coxhead: According to the WCSP, this genus and its species have been moved to Phalaenopsis. Given that both this page and Phalaenopsis have significant page history, how should this page be moved? Nicholaswei (talk) 03:13, 26 November 2020 (UTC)
- @Nicholaswei: there are two possibilities:
- For well-known, "major" taxa that are no longer used, we've generally left a page, without a taxobox. See Category:Historically recognized plant taxa. The page will explain why the taxon is no longer used, and how it used to be used.
- Otherwise, you can create a subsection under "Taxonomy" in the new taxon article and move whatever material seems appropriate from the no longer used taxon article, making that a redirect. The edit summary for partial move (merge) should say what you are doing. Then {{Merged-from}} and {{Merged-to}} are put on the talk pages of the two articles. Also the redirect should have {{R with history}}.
- In this case, I would go for #2. Peter coxhead (talk) 07:24, 26 November 2020 (UTC)
- @Peter coxhead: Thank you very much for the advice! I've never done this before; does what I did look right? Nicholaswei (talk) 09:23, 27 November 2020 (UTC)
