[edit]This statement might be wrong The subtribe Orchidinae alone contains about 1,800 species.[1] should it not be that the tribe contains that many and it should go up one level to the tribe page??
Not monotypic
[edit]Jin et al. (2017) start off with Chase et al. (2015)'s circumscription of Orchidinae. Chase recognize subtribes Disinae, Brownleeinae and Coryciinae in Orchideae. The article for Orchidinae should be reinstated.
Reproducing Chase list of Orchidinae genera here to help me check status of automatic taxoboxes:
- Anacamptis
- Androcorys
- Bartholina (Jin wasn't able to sample)
- Benthamia
- Bhutanthera (POWO synonym, not mentioned by Jin)
- Bonatea
- Brachycorythis
- Centrostigma (Jin wasn't able to sample)
- Chamorchis
- Cynorkis
- Dactylorhiza
- Diplomeris
- Dracomonticola (Jin wasn't able to sample)
- Galearis
- Gennaria
- Gymnadenia
- Habenaria
- Hemipilia
- Herminium
- Himantoglossum
- Holothrix (Jin wasn't able to sample)
- Hsenhsua
- Megalorchis (Jin wasn't able to sample)
- Neobolusia (Jin wasn't able to sample)
- Neotinea
- Oligophyton (Jin wasn't able to sample)
- Ophrys
- Orchis
- Pecteilis
- Peristylus
- Physoceras
- Platanthera
- Platycoryne (Jin wasn't able to sample)
- Ponerorchis
- Pseudorchis
- Roeperocharis (Jin wasn't able to sample)
- Satyrium
- Schizochilus
- Serapias
- Shizhenia (published after Chase, accepted by Jin, synonym on POWO)
- Silvorchis (Jin wasn't able to sample)
- Sirindhornia
- Stenoglottis
- Steveniella
- Thulinia (Jin wasn't able to sample)
- Traunsteinera
- Tsaiorchis
- Tylostigma
- Veyretella (Jin wasn't able to sample)
Indents are genera listed by Chase, but not in the list of genera in this article (Shizhenia follows Jin). Jin notes several taxa that they were unable to sample. Aceratorchis, Androcorys and Porolabium accepted by Chase, but synonyms on POWO (Aceratorchis and Androcorys synonyms in Jin, Jin doesn't mention Porolabium).Plantdrew (talk) 02:38, 12 October 2021 (UTC)
- @Peter coxhead:, you've edited this most extensively, but you basically did a cut and paste move from Orchidinae. I'm inclined to request a history merge to associate your edits from 2018 and later with Orchidinae, unless you feel differently. Regardless, some rewriting will be needed (e.g., adding genera that Jin didn't sample). Plantdrew (talk) 23:46, 12 October 2021 (UTC)
- @Plantdrew: sure, I'm happy to leave this to you. My recollection now is that I got to this via genera which I know (European ground orchids) and found it needed some "tidying", but I didn't research it in great depth. Peter coxhead (talk) 06:35, 13 October 2021 (UTC)
- @Plantdrew:@Peter coxhead: sorry for the ping, but do you think would it be worth it to create a separate page for Orchidinae now? Chen at al. 2017 analyzes the Orchideae in pretty great detail and now that Orchideae consists of multiple subtribes it would be nice to have a discussion on Orchidinae specifically, especially after moving things like Satyrium from Diseae into Orchidinae. There's also a nice tree showing clades within Orchidinae, such as a Habenaria-ish clade (still dubious), a Satyrium clade, Bartholina possibly being sister to Holothrix, etc.

- @Nicholaswei: seems worthwhile to me. Peter coxhead (talk) 17:12, 10 December 2022 (UTC)
- @Nicholaswei:, go for it. I had intended to create a page for Orchidinae, but got distracted by other things, and had forgotten about it. Plantdrew (talk) 17:25, 10 December 2022 (UTC)
