Royal Australian Navy
[edit]Are you sure that the RAN participated in this operation? Without checking any sources, I think that all the RAN destroyers which had served with the British Eastern Fleet had been transferred to the British Pacific Fleet and no Australian corvettes were involved. Part of the 1st Parachute Battalion (Australia) arrived in Singapore on 9 September though as Australia's contribution to its reoccupation. Nick-D (talk) 10:22, 7 December 2009 (UTC)
I've noted in the background section that only one Australian destroyer, the HMAS Hawkesbury, was involved in the operation, while other Australian vessels were repatriation troopships. Nonetheless, I've edited the combatant as there were Australian infantry deployed to the island as well. Wolcott (talk) 10:27, 8 December 2009 (UTC)
300 suicides myth?
[edit]The claim that 300 Japanese committed suicide at the Raffles Hotel is questioned at this website:

Japanese holdout & suicides
[edit]The two Japanese soldiers who surrendered in 1989 links to the Japanese holdout page, but they aren't actually on there. Also, the text of the article, which states that over 300 soldiers committed suicide at the Raffles hotel, and that another platoon committed suicide by grenade, doesn't match the 300 suicides mentioned in the infobox.
