"the SSRF under command of Captain Geoffrey Appleyard" - "the SSRF under the command of Captain Geoffrey Appleyard"
"Freetown was the agreed rendezvous for both groups Appleyard's party having arrived at the end of August" - "Freetown was the agreed rendezvous for both groups, Appleyard's party having arrived at the end of August"
"March-Phillipps and his second in command, Appleyard, on board," - "March-Phillipps and his second in command Appleyard on board,"
