Title
[edit]The title of this article is wrong. "Opern- und Schauspielhaus" is no official title of the theatre. "Oper Frankfurt" and "Schauspiel Frankfurt" are two independent branches of Frankfurt's municipal theatres, loosely joint as "Städtische Bühnen Frankfurt". Anyway, the article is about the Frankfurt Opera only by now. --FordPrefect42 21:23, 23 May 2007 (UTC)
- I agree. Should the page be moved to Frankfurt Opera, Opera Frankfurt, or Oper Frankfurt? I suggest the first. -- Michael Bednarek (talk) 08:39, 11 June 2010 (UTC)
- The situation has changed since 2007, as the article now at least covers the directors of the drama branch as well. If the page should be moved, then rather to Städtische Bühnen Frankfurt (Municipal theaters Frankfurt?) corresponding to de:Städtische Bühnen Frankfurt. Or the article should be split. --FordPrefect42 (talk) 10:32, 11 June 2010 (UTC)
- It seems there exists no article in the English Wikipedia with "Städtische Bühnen" in its name, nor one with "Municipal theaters" or "Théâtre municipal" and only very few with "Municipal theater", and a few more with "Teatro municipal" or "City Theatre". I find the concept of a "Stadttheater" difficult to explain to an English-speaking person, so maybe the literal translation you suggest, "Municipal theaters Frankfurt", is quite appropriate, although I'm not sure the word "theaters" should be spelled in lower case – could it be considered part of a proper noun? All Wikipedia articles with "City Theatre" in their name spell it in uppercase. What about City Theaters Frankfurt? Anyway, as you (some time ago) pointed out, the current title is in no way the organisation's name, so it ought to be moved to something more sensible. -- Michael Bednarek (talk) 13:45, 11 June 2010 (UTC)
- Unfortunately there is no English version neither of [1] nor of [2] which might give a clue about the best name in English. The Opera House is called Oper Frankfurt on [3] but Opera Frankfurt on the city's official site [4]. --FordPrefect42 (talk) 14:12, 11 June 2010 (UTC)
- So, what should be done? Municipal Theatres Frankfurt, Frankfurt Municipal Theatres, City Theatres Frankfurt, or Frankfurt City Theatres? Following Special:Search/intitle:"City Theatre", I'd prefer the last. -- Michael Bednarek (talk) 08:33, 12 June 2010 (UTC)
- The article should be moved to "Oper Frankfurt". The first sentence of the lead should be removed. Grimes2 (talk) 19:08, 16 April 2019 (UTC)
- I support that. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 11:31, 17 April 2019 (UTC)
