notability

[edit]

OpenMedia.ca should not be deleted because it is about a real non-profit organization in Vancouver, B.C. that is currently fighting UBB in Canada. More references to come.

---

To quote Wikipedia: "group that does not credibly indicate the importance or significance of the subject"... OpenMedia is the main reason why UBB is being discussed in Parliament Hill for the past two weeks. If your looking for proof of the organization's significance, just look at the number of news reports in Canada which mentioned OpenMedia in the past week. --FineWolf (talk) 01:06, 12 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Why is this up for speedy deletion? It doesnt seem to meet the criteria for it to be deleted. — Preceding unsigned comment added by ChappyHappy (talkcontribs) 01:10, 12 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The article does need some sourcing and tone improvements, but I agree that the article, as written, does make sufficient claims of notability as to not be a speedy candidate. As a Wikipedia administrator, I've overruled the speedy nomination; however, I do need to stress that this does not necessarily mean that the article is permanently safe from ever being deleted. The article can still be nominated for the WP:AFD process if it doesn't see some kind of improvement to read more like an encyclopedia article and less like a rewrite of the organization's own mission statement. On WP:AFD... Again, the page is its in infancy. Can we please give time for people to rewrite it properly. OpenMedia.ca has a huge significance in Canada, just check out Google News. --FineWolf (talk) 18:10, 12 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

While there is no deadline I note that there have been no substantive changes to the article in the 15 days since asking for more time. The AFD closed as "no consensus" but there is nothing to stop it from being nominated again in the future for the same reasons. Beeblebrox (talk) 22:50, 27 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I do not see any reason for this Wiki page to be deleted and I see plenty of reasons for it to stay. Whoever put this article up for deletion had better show us a real reason for deletion or I am going to assume he was a shill paid for by the big cable companies.
