Opening comment
I moved this page because the official term is One-Design, not One-design. Whoever initially created the page did not type it in correctly. AdmiralKit 08:57, 31 January 2007 (UTC)
Merge Spec racing into One-Design
Spec racing can be merged here, into its section, since it is a short article, and the "summary" in this article is horrible.
This was first suggested in a WP:RM discussion at Talk:Spec racing.

The "Sailing" section, third to last paragraph, cites the Puddle Duck Racer as a one-design class. As may be confirmed on the website http://www.pdracer.com/ in the "Class Rules" section, PDR hulls are constrained for the lowest 10", but above the waterline hull shape is much less constrained, and rig (number, types, and area of sails) and foils (number, types, shapes (within a maximum thickness of 1.5 inches), and sizes of centerboards and rudders) are not constrained. Although there are plenty of good one-design small sailboat classes to cite (Sunfish, Fireball, Force 5, etc.) I think the Puddle Duck Racer is more of a "Development" class and should be classed either as a "Box rule" (preferably) or "Handicap" class of sailboat. I recommend replacement of the phrase (and link) Puddle Duck Racer with a similar phrase (and link) Sunfish http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sunfish_(sailboat) or similar small sailboat class which better typifies the one-design concept. - Given that, I agree! - Ahunt (talk) 01:52, 10 November 2010 (UTC)
- The current One-Design article would have to be substantially re-written, and indeed renamed, for this to be a good idea. While there is a commonality of purpose between the two concepts the current One-Design article is very yachting-centric and has a name which refers specifically to yacht racing. What do you have in mind by way of a merger? --Falcadore (talk) 16:31, 14 July 2011 (UTC)
- Support: I am in support of the merge. The Spec-racing page is a stub and this would solve that problem. Starfleet Academy "Live long and prosper." 02:57, 13 October 2011 (UTC)
Merger complete. --DarkCrowCaw 14:56, 12 July 2012 (UTC)

- I removed the globalize tag as that section is much better now. This article needs some serious refs to support all the text and soon or it should be stubbed to the referenced text. - Ahunt (talk) 19:05, 11 June 2015 (UTC)
Monotype, sailing
Is that the same thing as monotype in sailing. Either way it should be covered in the article because one-design and monotype are used as it seems almost interchangeably in sailboat articles. Setenzatsu.2 (talk) 12:04, 22 November 2020 (UTC)
- I have never seen the term "monotype" used in the English language about sailing. Usually monotype refers to printmaking. Can you point to an example of that use somewhere? - Ahunt (talk) 16:26, 22 November 2020 (UTC)
