Semi protection and incorporating criticism as a path to article stability
[edit]It's right that disruptive editors have been barred from this article. At the same time, Wikipedia policy and guidelines state it does need to avert being too one-sided; it needs to show the person's biases, and any controversy needs to be included at the intro per WP:LEDE. Take our article on Germaine Greer; it states at the intro that "Greer's ideas have created controversy", that she is a "liberation (or radical) rather than equality feminist." I support description of Tokarczuk's biases and criticisms in the intro (on condition there is WP:RS citation to support it), as a liberal-left feminist and animal rights activist who has drawn strong criticism from some Polish conservatives and nationalists, who allege that she has strong bias and unpatriotic tendencies. If it's verifiable that she denies the allegations, that must be included too, per Wikipedia policy and guidelines. -Chumchum7 (talk) 06:51, 1 November 2019 (UTC)

Please change the title of one of the books from "Anna w grobowcach świata" to "Anna In w grobowcach świata" (and the English title accordingly) 87.246.245.52 (talk) 08:25, 17 December 2019 (UTC)
- Not done. What's here already agrees with the Worldcat entry. It's also not clear how the English would change accordingly. –Deacon Vorbis (carbon • videos) 21:49, 17 December 2019 (UTC)
Polish plait hairstyle edit
[edit]@Alalch E. It's been a minute since my edit regarding her alleged "dreadlocks" and I wanted to follow up on your revert. I'll preface by saying I agree that the previous addition pretty much constituted original WP:SYNTHESIS and that it should have been more precise. I guess I wanted to get it in and rushed without realizing the synth issue. I was glad to hear you were interested in discussing this on the talk page, though, and think that it should be included in amended form.
As for the cultural appropriation issues, the most mainstream take on it I could find was this article from Newsweek Polska behind a paywall. There is also this footnote from a journal article which says "She is frequently described as having dreadlocks, which ignores the Polish origins of the hairstyle, instead suggesting cultural appropriation of a hairstyle that is strongly associated with Black culture (and which is often a target of anti-Black racism)—which Tokarczuk has also been accused of" and then references the Newsweek article for more coverage of the issue (https://read.dukeupress.edu/genre/article/54/1/67/173582/Two-Paths-for-the-Big-Book-Olga-Tokarczuk-s)
From what I understand, it was The Guardian which had previously used the term "dreadlocks" to describe Tokarczuk's hairstyle and the resulting "backlash" was pretty much limited to social media posts by people unaware of the Polish plait and Slavic hairstyle histories at large. What are your thoughts as to how this should be addressed?
Here is the link I had previously used: https://www.wroclaw.pl/extra/olga-tokarczuk-o-literaturze-inspiracjach-i-dreadach and https://apnews.com/article/bbaaac0ac31e4ab6a5faa3a4f85ba3a3 this AP piece that discusses the origins of her hairstyle. Ppt91talk 20:43, 1 March 2023 (UTC)
Religion
[edit]I have removed mentions of Tokarczuk being an atheist. The only source which explicitly mentions this is the FT interviews (apologies, forgot to mention this in my edit summary), while in every other interview she is quite nuanced on the topic of religion and cautious in defining herself. Given the breadth of her statements on God and religion and the BLP policy, I removed the reference to her being an atheist. KluskaSlaska (talk) 20:53, 6 May 2023 (UTC)
Bibliography
[edit]I have commenced a tidy-up of the Bibliography section:
- Cite templates will be used where possible.
- Tables may be used to organise short stories, poems and/or book reviews.
- I prefer capitalization and punctuation to follow the standard cataloguing rules in AACR2 and RDA, rather than "title case".
- Links (either direct or indirect) to potentially unreliable or incomplete digitised copies and to booksellers may be removed.
This is a work in progress; feel free to continue. Sunwin1960 (talk) 12:16, 21 June 2023 (UTC)
