I've Written

[edit]

I've put an article on Christina's Oh Mother because I have a source. BritandBeyonce 11:54, 31 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Don't

[edit]

Do not delete this anymore because the song has been played via airplay and there are some references to cite. BritandBeyonce 11:38, 1 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Music Genre

Is Oh Mother R&B..?! I don't think so.. Olliyeah (talk) 21:16, 25 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

That is exactly what I was thinking read I read the article. Also on the side it is listed as being R&B, Soul, Alternative Hip hop.ThisIsMyName 19:36, 2 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I'll review this article. Initial comments should hopefully be posted by tomorrow. --1ST7 (talk) 05:22, 27 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I did some copyediting; I hope you don't mind. Here's the review:

  1. Well-written
    • This phrase is a little awkward: "'Oh Mother' is a downtempo piano ballad talks about Aguilera's abusive childhood, which was compared to Madonna's "Oh Father", and incorporates various musical instruments, from strings to keyboards." It should be "ballad that talks about Aguilera's abusive childhood". The part about it being compared to Madonna's song should probably be in a separate sentence.
    • This sentence is also somewhat awkward: "Upon its release, the song was met with mainly positive reviews from contemporary music critics as well as managed to enter charts in Europe with moderate success." How about "Upon its release, the song was met with mainly positive reviews from contemporary music critics, and it managed to enter charts in Europe with moderate success"?
    • The single paragraph under "Background and recording" would probably be better as two paragraphs.
    • "Musically, 'Oh Mother' is a piano ballad." The word "musically" is a little unnecessary and redundant.
    • The "Composition" paragraph should be split at "According to Aguilera herself". The part about the song being about Aguilera's childhood would be best as the first paragraph, and the information about the music and instrumentation as the second.
  2. Verifiable with no original research:
  3. Broad in its coverage:
    • Is there any more information about the music video? And any more opinions on it that just Levine's?
  4. Neutral:
  5. Stable:
  6. Illustrated, if possible, by images:
    • The article meets the criteria, but would it be possible to add a picture of Aguilera somewhere?

I'm going to put the article on hold for a week to give you time to address these issues. Thanks for the work you've put into this! --1ST7 (talk) 06:18, 28 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I've addressed all of your concerns above! Thanks for the review! — Simon (talk) 10:45, 1 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the edits you've made. Before I pass the article, though, can you please address the points under "Broad in coverage" and "Images"? Thank you, --1ST7 (talk) 23:00, 2 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]
The one week holding period has expired, but I'd rather not fail the article now, considering how long it's been waiting for a review. Since you have been responding to the points in the review, I am going to extend the deadline to one week from today. --1ST7 (talk) 03:22, 6 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • @1ST7: "Oh Mother" didn't have any actual music video, only an excerpt from the DVD release Back to Basics: Live and Down Under, that's why there aren't much any reviews for it. For images, there are no suitable ones for the article. Btw, thanks for reviewing this! I was too busy at school, so 2 of my GANs failed. I hope this could pass! :) — Simon (talk) 11:59, 7 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Okay then, everything's been covered, so I'm going to pass it. Congratulations, and thanks for your work! --1ST7 (talk) 23:42, 7 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]
