The Title
[edit]Is there a good reason for "The" in the article title? —Tamfang (talk) 18:33, 5 October 2012 (UTC)
Classical ancestry?
[edit]Isn't it true that Oglethorpe copied the design from an ancient drawing of an imaginary classical city? It would be interesting to know more. Valetude (talk) 18:21, 1 January 2015 (UTC)
Old Style dates
[edit]- James Edward Oglethorpe founded the Georgia Colony, and the town of Savannah, on February 12, 1733 (February 1, 1732 by the Julian calendar used in the British colonies until September 2, 1752).
(Emphasis added.) ChrisfrumHouston changed "1732" to "1732", saying, The calendar was not off by more than one year. This must be an error. Corrected. You might very well think that; but, before 1752, new year's day was March 25 (see Old Style and New Style dates#Start of the year in the historical records of Britain and its colonies and possessions). I'll revert. —Tamfang (talk) 19:52, 18 April 2016 (UTC)
- Tamfang, thank you for catching and fixing my error.
- I have not been keeping up, and only today saw your comment. Three years late.
- For anyone else interested in this topic, loads more info is at Calendar (New Style) Act 1750. --ChrisfrumHouston (talk) 18:11, 28 February 2019 (UTC)
