MY TRIBUTE TO HRM, KING C.G OMIEH (LATE). MY VIEW. It is a great privilege and honor to find myself in the sight of HRM, KING CADBURY GEORGE OMIEH, IGONI XXI, AMANYANABO OF ODIOMA KINGDOM. It was during my then president as National Union of Odioma Kingdom Students-worldwide, that I had the royal encounter at his Port Harcourt resident, meeting him exposed me to many opportunities, most especially, the bundle of wisdom he unveiled to me, his love and deep compassion for education was extremely great, his ability and experience in stabilizing the Kingdom was really overwhelming, his decisions over issues in the Kingdom was accurate wisdom in display, he was loved by old and young, men and women, chiefs, home and abroad. LITTLE YOU SHOULD KNOW ABOUT ODIOMA KINGDOM. Odioma kingdom is found in Eastern (E) part of Brass local government area of Bayelsa state, South-South Nigeria, the area lies between latitude 4°14N of the Equator and longitude 6°20-6°35E of the Greenwich meridians. ODIOMA kingdom is 80% hinterland area, Odioma main town and some communities and settlements in the Kingdom, lays coastal areas which have what is geographically called Beach Ridge, Odioma main town is located at the right of St. Nicholas River, the kingdom is bounded on the West(W) by Diema community in Brass LGA-Bayelsa, bounded on the North(N) by Nembe in Nembe LGA-Bayelsa, which stretch down to Tweni and Juju Point on the Santa-Barbara Creek bounded on the East(E) by administrative boundaries at the middle to the Santa-Barbara River to Kula, stretched to Bonny, all in River State of Nigeria, and bounded on the South(S) by Atlantic Ocean (Gulf of Guinea). Odioma is an ancient kingdom in Nembe ethnic group in present Bayelsa state, this kingdom has a large area of land which stretched from the coastal area down to the Creek area of the Delta and the overall King of this kingdom is called IGONI, which happens to be the name of the finding father of the kingdom, and ODIO is the name of IGONI's wife. CLIMATIC CONDITION. Odioma kingdom has presence of good climate, it has a monsoon type of climate, the duration of rainfall varies between 270 and 300 days. The rainy season last from April to November and high relative humidity and heavy cloud cover characterize the area. The area does experience a short break known as August Break, and it last for two weeks, usually as rain stop. The dry season period begins in November and ends in March, the Harmattan is experienced December to January. The area also experienced a local wind on daily basis that is called LAND AND SEA BREEZES, land breeze is a cool gentle wind which blows towards the sea from the land during the night, while the sea breeze is a gentle wind whose velocity ranges between 6-50km per hour, it's very cool moisture laden that blows from the sea during the day. RELIEF AND TOPOGRAPHY. The area is swampy in the marine ecosystem, varies from the rich coastal zone to the relatively biological semi-desert of the open sea zone. The distinct ecological zones based on vegetation in the Kingdom include mangrove forest and coastal forest, low rain forest. The trees found here are palm trees, mangrove trees, etc. With wood like mahogany, ferns and shrubs, the area has thick forest, especially the mangrove forest that creates room for Wild animals like monkey, python, crocodile etc. The topography of the area, has flat plains, characterized by low elevations and netted in a web of rivers. SOCIOECONOMIC ACTIVITIES. The people in the area are pre-occupied with salt making which gradually fade away for canoe carving and fishing of which fishing now has lead its way to the peak as the highest occupation undertaking by the populace of Odioma kingdom, and also been in areas of trading, oil exploration and exploitation activities, and civil service.
