Notability
[edit]A cursory search yielded little in the form of the in depth coverage from multiple reliable sources required by WP:GNG and WP:NRIVALRY. Only one of the cited sources meets WP:RS and the reference to the rivalry is only passing. Also, if an email was sent to me, I have not received it. -Ad Orientem (talk) 14:30, 15 October 2015 (UTC)
- Keep: For one, there's a second newspaper reference now. For two, the rivalry has been mentioned on College Gameday. For three, the rivalry is over 100 years old (one of the most-renewed in D3, and possibly the most-renewed in this part of the country) and there's a trophy presented to the winner. For four, I suspect one could find many sources if one had access to the historical LA Times. pbp 15:51, 15 October 2015 (UTC)
- This is not an AfD discussion. It's just my observations about some shortcomings in the article. Pretty much the only criteria for establishing notability is in depth coverage from multiple reliable secondary sources. Age, trophies etc. do not ring the N bell. -Ad Orientem (talk) 16:14, 15 October 2015 (UTC)
- But age and trophy would indicate that there is a greater likelihood of the sources being out there than if it was younger or had no trophy. pbp 16:21, 15 October 2015 (UTC)
- Maybe and maybe not. Here is a good place to look if you want really old newspaper coverage.[1]
- Your site has coverage of a number of Oxy-Whittier games, but none of the them use the word "rivalry", and all predate Myron Claxton and his shoes. pbp 16:52, 15 October 2015 (UTC)

- Age certainly means that it is more likely that offline sources could exist. I'm inclined to want to keep this around a bit longer and see what kind of information comes up. I speculate it will not be too difficult to find.--Paul McDonald (talk) 20:55, 15 October 2015 (UTC)
- What we need is LA Times and LA Herald-Examiner from about 1930 to 1970. I think that'll help them. pbp 21:04, 15 October 2015 (UTC)

- BTW, I did get a new LAPL card, and I was able to access some old newspapers that a) cover the game, and b) refer to it as a rivalry. pbp 15:20, 22 December 2015 (UTC)
