How the perception of male homosexuality evolved over the past 50 years

[edit]

The film begins with scenes enacting the exaggerated notion that male homosexuality a half century ago was a hormone driven frenzy of one night stands between people who lived the codes in dress and behaviour and whose lives were completely driven by their sexuality. But then it evolves into a poignant love story, progressing to describe the lives and feelings of real people who refused to be trapped by adolescent caricatures and who live in a nuanced world surrounded by equally nuanced friends and communities. The humanity of the characters felt both genuine and unforced, and their feelings were those that any can identify with. That it also managed to evoke these feelings of identification while completely bypassing the devastation of the HIV years and all that meant to survivors, adds a timeless quality to the film. 38.18.134.211 (talk) 21:22, 7 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
