File:Norton Internet Security 2012 by Symantec.png Nominated for speedy Deletion

An image used in this article, File:Norton Internet Security 2012 by Symantec.png, has been nominated for speedy deletion at Wikimedia Commons for the following reason: Copyright violations
What should I do?

Don't panic; deletions can take a little longer at Commons than they do on Wikipedia. This gives you an opportunity to contest the deletion (although please review Commons guidelines before doing so). The best way to contest this form of deletion is by posting on the image talk page.

  • If the image is non-free then you may need to upload it to Wikipedia (Commons does not allow fair use)
  • If the image isn't freely licensed and there is no fair use rationale then it cannot be uploaded or used.
  • If the image has already been deleted you may want to try Commons Undeletion Request

Ad?

This page reads like an advertisement to me. It just doesn't feel encyclopedic, too many opinionated/promotional words and it just doesn't seem neutral. I won't go and put the flag, but I'd like to makes sure that due weight is added to criticisms and issues with NIS. As a suggestion, wording and word choice changes may help. This may also help it flow better. As a final note, it seems to be missing citations for many paragraphs, and since its a Good Article and its well known, makes me all suspicious. Maybe I'll find the time to edit the article myself, but if not I'd like to point out some of my thoughts for someone that definitely has the time to fix things. Thanks! Move to Norton Security

Hi in norton latest beta is norton security and norton security backup. They renamed norton internet security to norton security so I think we should move th page to a new name. 151.225.137.145 (talk) 00:39, 26 July 2014 (UTC)

Version Naming Scheme

I am making some edits based on some of my own observations regarding version numbers. I am digging through Google for some good citations, but it's difficult. For example, Symantec/Norton didn't apparently announce "we will stop using the year in the name of our product" but they did. Contrarily, a web search for their product brings an official ad saying "Norton™ Official Site - Newest 2014 Version Available Now‎" so they kind of are keeping that naming convention covered for people who expect it. If you check that link, 2014 appears nowhere in the product description. I'm pretty sure that was the case with 2013 as well. My own assumption (which is mostly irrelevant, or at least unverifiable) is that they are downplaying major releases due to their subscription model where all new versions are free. Indeed that has been in place for a while, but I can't remember when it started.

In the mean time, I'll keep digging.AutumnWind 16:10, 31 August 2014 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Autumn Wind (talkcontribs)

Well, I gave it a little bit of a try, and did verify a little bit of what I said above, but it's still a tough dig. I feel like the release history says too much, and that current functionality should be emphasized more. IDK, I'll come back to it.AutumnWind 20:58, 31 August 2014 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Autumn Wind (talkcontribs)

version 22.5

So I reverted some of the past tense stuff for 2 reasons. The first is that it is still supported software that is receiving updates. Secondly, and I'll have to double check the WP guidelines on this, but it will still be software even when support ends. Now in this case, since it will probably lose most functionality if/when support ends, then maybe at that point it should change to past tense. Or at least when the software stops being updated.

Also, I removed the expansion needed tags, because there seems to be little point to having them there. I was the one who put them there anyway.

Just wanted to explain my actions. See you in the archive. Autumn Wind (talk) 17:24, 21 July 2015 (UTC)

In reference to the above statement, I've changed the archival of this page to 90 days (hopefully) with a change above. 10 days is far too often, and NAV and N360 are set to 90, so I copied that. Autumn Wind (talk) 17:58, 21 July 2015 (UTC)
