[edit]I think we should rationalize the categories for Infrastructure projects. Where does one draw the line between an Infrastructure project and a Proposed infrastructure project? Biscuittin (talk) 12:26, 6 May 2012 (UTC)
Breakdown of funding approvals
[edit]Breakdown of the some of the different improvements and when they were approved, in greater detail than in the main article:
- March 2011
- Ordsall Chord; also re-configuration of Manchester Victoria and at Stalybridge (£85m). Now referred to as stage 1 of the scheme, with completion targeted for the December 2016 timetable revision.
- March 2012 [1]
- Improvements Manchester-Sheffield, Bradford, Preston (together £130m)
- July 2012 [2][3] (in all £322m)
- Castlefield corridor, incl. new platforms at Manchester Piccadilly (~ £200m)
- Chat Moss capacity improvements (~ £50m)
- Manchester Airport and Rochdale capacity improvements (new platforms) (? together ~ £70m; MIA estimated at £23m)
Separately,
- November 2011 [4]
- Electrification Manchester-Leeds (£290m)
Excluding the electrification, the approved schemes appear to total £537m -- i.e. a bit more than the £530m originally quoted, but less than the later £560m.
The difference might be in the decision that it would not after all be necessary to reopen the two closed Standedge Tunnels as originally considered, because of the better acceleration of electric trains. Or it might be that costs of other improvements have been rolled into the £290m Manchester-Leeds figure.
On the other hand, the July 2012 press stories talk of £477m as having been already committed to the Northern Hub (including the electrification), rather than the £505m that the earlier announcements above might suggest.
It seems surprisingly hard, in all the documentation from Network Rail, to find a systematic summary of all the project options with individual prices.

Covid
[edit]The Covid-19 pandemic has changed everything. Updates may be best after things settle GRALISTAIR (talk) 14:17, 26 January 2021 (UTC).
- Yes, but it is it not possible to correct the tenses where a definitive change has been made that is unlikely to be reversed?--TedColes (talk) 09:34, 22 February 2022 (UTC)
- I still think an update is needed. I will give it a go if people are in agreement GRALISTAIR (talk) 20:16, 24 February 2022 (UTC)
