[edit]Anyone have any objections about adding a bit (In the opening sentence) about its portability? I would class this as a rather important feature of the screenreader; indeed i kno several people that use it because it is portable.
Article expansion
[edit]It might be helpful to expand the article by providing reviews from other sites and history of this software. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Jnvlee2013 (talk • contribs) 23:14, 11 June 2013 (UTC)
General article edits to conform to similar projects
[edit]It might be helpful to edit the lead section (or the summary table) to give conformance feeling to other articles such as:
- Number of languages instead of listing them.
- Working state information. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Jnvlee2013 (talk • contribs) 22:33, 10 June 2013 (UTC)
replace eschews with avoids
[edit]As a non native english speaker I really needed to look up "eschews" that is in "currently eschews video intercept techniques in favour of ". Does it really need a seldom (if ever) used word like that ? Wouldn't the simpler word "avoids" be just as good ? As the English wikipedia is most probably been read around the world and not just by English speaking nations it sould be welcome. Just my thoughts -- 141.64.166.38 (talk) 08:18, 24 January 2011 (UTC) As a native English speaker, I wouldn't have known what that word meant if not for this comment. 173.218.148.62 (talk) 08:18, 29 June 2011 (UTC)
Potentialy misleading phrasing "exclusively with accesibility APIs ... rather than specialized video drivers"
[edit]"It currently works exclusively with accessibility APIs such as UI Automation, Microsoft Active Accessibility, IAccessible2 and the Java Access Bridge, rather than using specialized video drivers to "intercept" and interpret visual information."
This is not entirely true. NVDA uses Microsoft's OCR engine to interpret graphical information.
I'm also not sure what the original author is trying to convey by "video driver".
COI disclaimer: I work for NV Access, the creators of NVDA. I am not doing this on the clock however, I just like to contribute to Wikipedia.

[edit]This page incorrectly claims or insinuate that Microsoft created NVDS. Microsoft was one of many supports & donors. But not creators by any stretch of the imagination.

This Article should mention that the creator of NVDA are Australian citizens Michel Curran & Jamie Teh.

Aussie Tech to help the blind in U.S
Aug 1, 2022 – 4.00pm
Brisbane-based blind inventors Michael Curran and James Teh have signed up Texas State University to use their free screen reading software NVDA, marking a milestone for the open-sourced not-for-profit. The new deal will give 38,000 American students access to the software, adding to NVDA’s 200,000-strong existing user base which has assisted in the 10-year development of the technology.

How friendship between NVDA founders Mick Curran and Jamie Teh is changing lives for thousands of blind people.

” Introduced by presenter Leigh Sales
Mick Curran and Jamie Teh are lifelong friends who share a love of music and technology. They're also blind. Both computer programmers, the pair saw an injustice they wanted to fix: vision-impaired people have to buy expensive screen-reading software to access computers and the online world. Their screen-reader is now used across 175 countries and has been translated into 50 languages. And despite the potential to cash in on their innovation, they've kept it free for all. “

- i don't see how the current article implies this, is this still an issue? Buddsean (talk) 07:35, 8 July 2023 (UTC)
NVDA logo
[edit]NVDA has a logo (as featured on the About page), which I considered adding to the infobox. but I'm not sure of the legality of doing that. I noticed that other logos e.g. for Microsoft Windows and Coca-Cola are in the public domain for different reasons, but I'm not sure about this. KaraLG84 (talk) 18:57, 25 January 2024 (UTC)
- I went and added the logo. KaraLG84 (talk) 15:13, 25 February 2024 (UTC)
