Morris the Cat reference

[edit]

The reference given for Morris the Cat's US Presidential candidacy appears to be unrelated to Morris the Cat. Typometer (talk) 23:32, 13 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Fiscus Tree

[edit]

Does anyone have a reference for the thing about Michael Moore and the fiscus tree? It might be good to add to the article (if only because people would he extremely amused by it).IMFromKathlene 06:10, 28 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I've heard about it through a friend, who saw it on TV at some point here in Austria. Adding it would be a good idea, but we need a source... —Nightstallion (?) 22:13, 14 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Can of foot powder elected mayor of Ecuadoran town

[edit]

In 1975 Robert E. Ornstein published a book titled "Common Knowledge" with the headline as its subtitle. Such an item is technically not an animal, but seems to fit the spirit of this list. I can't find many details about the supposed election, but the New York Times reported the event on 7/17/69 and the incident is also recounted in the Write-in_candidate article. As I recall it from the news at the time, the basis was an avertisiment whose Spanish I cannot after all these years: "vote for whoever you want, but vote for Pulvapies," Pulvapies being the brand of foot powder. The name Pulvapies may help to track this rumor down. 71.175.133.100 (talk) 22:41, 11 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Not a real animal, but surely deserves a mention here? 212.159.16.171 13:29, 28 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Given that the list now includes a ficus tree, a puppet, and possibly a can of foot powder, perhaps this page should be renamed "Non-human electoral candidates", or something of that sort — they all fit into the same basic spirit, animal or not. I'd agree that H'Angus should get a mention, anyway. -- Vardion 16:31, 28 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Caligula's horse

[edit]

The Roman emperor Caligula attempted to make his horse, Incitatus, a consul. Although he never was, Incitatus at least deserves some mention in this article. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Noz92 (talkcontribs) 00:54, 10 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Limberbutt McCubbins

[edit]

The Limberbutt McCubbins campaign has continued to gather steam and have news articles, radio shows, and television appearances published. I believe his page should be reopened and not directed to this page. Here are but a few of the examples:

What happens if a great ape (non human) is elected

[edit]

I saw a statement on the main page that things that is expected that a human must do might be able to be challenged, like if an oath is required, a challenge on the fact that by no choice of the chimp's own it is mute, at least non speaking. Does anyone know of any examples of where an animal, especially a great ape, was elected in an official public office (excluding the mayor of unincorporated X place), and if so, what happened next? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.149.156.139 (talk) 17:59, 7 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Sub-sections

[edit]

I have created some sub-sections, since many of these were not actual candidates. It's not always clear if the nomination procedure was followed, if the nom was accepted, if the entity appeared on the ballot, if they could hav taken up the post had they won.
