Background

[edit]
  • "However, he rarely went to the shop and instead bought equipment from local stores like..." → "However, he rarely went to the former shop and instead bought equipment from local stores like..."
It could be a thrift or any other kind shop, just saying "shop" doesn't sound correct, hence why the "former". You are almost done, ping me when you finish. MarioSoulTruthFan (talk) 16:58, 18 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]
  • "wanted to make a lot out of recording" → poor vocabulary, replace it.
  • "One day out of boredom, he hung out at a Guitar Center near Atlantic Terminal while waiting for a train, when he heard someone playing a song by Green Day on a guitar and made notice of the instrument's poor tone". → When removing the additional sentence between commas, the other two make no sense whatsoever. Try to re-arrange this
  • "I remember thinking like, 'what if I could feed that through these weird reverb pedals I have at home?' 'Would it sound any different?' and it sort of hit me 'why don't I just record other people playing and then sort of use as my paint'". → just use the "..." or quotebox.

Production

[edit]
  • "what would be the first sound that would later be featured on the album..."→ what would be the first sound to be featured on the album.
  • "he recorded a guy who" → he taped a guy who (not always using the same words).
  • "As he described how he felt when he was editing the sample"→ The singer described how he felt while editing the sample
  • "Greenwald started recording of the album in a Guitar Center in Brooklyn, then at a shop in Baltimore" → Greenwald started recording the album in a Guitar Center in Brooklyn, and then at a shop in Baltimore.
  • "Greenwald recorded whatever sound he predicted he could make better quality out of when editing them later on" → Greenwald taped whatever sound he thought that could become better in quality when editing them later.
  • "recordings to work with at his home, where some snippets were played through a 4-track tape recorder or old pedals and some were looped or used as synthesizer patches". → recordings to work at his home. Some snippets were played through a 4-track tape recorder, others were old pedals and some were looped or used as synthesizer patches.
  • "As Greenwald described" → As described by Greenwald.
  • "There was a lot of panning. There was a lot of trying to connect things that were seemingly un-connectable. A lot of times I would think that a track was finished, but then I remembered that I had some other sound I wanted to use so I would comb back through it and add some fetching little tone somewhere. The editing and the recording processes were married. The studio was very much a part of the instrument." → This quote length is quite big, please user your own words every now and then in the quote.

Overall GA review

[edit]
  • It should be a reference to Greenwald recording, producing and doing everything in the record. Did he also mastered and mixed the records? If not add that.
    • Mentioned that he mastered and mixed the album in the production and composition section. Also, it's kind of obvious to the reader in the Background and composition that Greenwald's doing everything, including recording the iPhone snippets and editing them together in Pro Tools. He's the only credit on the album, no one else was involved (if you don't count the people playing the instruments at Guitar Center in the recordings)
  • Well rounded article, very interesting to read. I recommend a submission to "DYK" after promoted to GA. On hold for 7 days.
