I removed her DOB as the source being used has no evidence of editorial oversight for the webpage as presented. Unlike the articles on TVinsider, which include the author's name in the bylines, the IMDB-type celeb subpages do not meet the criteria for WP:DOB or WP:RS as they don't provide any information as to how the material is obtained or verified. This is a huge red flag when it comes to using such pages as a reliable source for BLPs. In addition, the website's Terms Of Use are clear that they take no responsibility for the accuracy of the information they publish. See sections 12 and 18 here for example.[1]
Per WP:BLPPRIVACY, the number of acceptable sources when it comes to WP:DOB is extremely slim. A truly reliable Secondary source(IE a magazine such as Los Angeles Times or New York Times. And preferably multiple of these) reporting their exact DOB. Or a social media post from the subject themselves where he or she confirms his or her birthday and preferably either his or her age or YOB in the same post as well. Failing either one of those, they should be kept out of the article for now. Kcj5062 (talk) 04:29, 29 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Oh boy. Out of all people, you had to choose Ms Glaser. You worry about her DOB not being private, while she openly jokes about her privates being her "publics"! Her age and date of birth is widely distributed. Please don't make it out as if she considers her age private. Here's just one example: In this May 8 2024 interview she readily discusses turning 40 "next month". If you absolutely must remove her exact date of birth for weird internal Wikipedia policy reasons (even though that helps exactly noone, least of all Ms Glaser herself) I guess I won't stop you, but please don't JUST remove it: now a reader has no way of using the article to find out how old she is. Is she a boomer or gen Z? A reader has no way to tell. Please reinstate some way of discerning her approximate age. By the way, even the recent Golden Globes announcement managed to insert her age for some reason, such as here. CapnZapp (talk) 09:50, 29 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I was just going by Wikipedia's policy of requiring a published, verifiable citation for material that is added to an article. One of the reasons Wikipedia doesn't just simply allow anything that has a DOB to be used as a source is because too many of them get that info from other sites. Someone writes an article, checks either Wikipedia or IMDb for basic research and includes that in their article. And not all celebs are like Glaser. Some don't talk about their age and prefer that their DOB to be kept private. In fact, someone once requested their DOB to be removed from Wikipedia for said reason.
Anyhow that EW article is the type of source Wikipedia is looking for when it comes to this sort of info. However since it only states her age, I'll put in the "age as of date" template. Kcj5062 (talk) 16:13, 29 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I simply think you could have picked a better example of a biographical hill to die on. Now the article is objectively worse than before; you have effectively introduced the obviously false claim she might be born in 1983. And you did so despite me supplying a second link clearly establishing her birthday to be no more than a month after May 8th, clearly ruling out a 1983 DOB. (ignoring for the moment both you and I know her exact DOB) Be advised, this kind of editing is how our project comes off as off-putting to the general public. CapnZapp (talk) 07:17, 30 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I take it you never used the "age as of date" function before. Please read this[2] It explains the way it works is that it "calculates a person's current age based on a known age as of specified date. This is useful when a reference states a person's age at the time of the reference's publication." So it put in the 1983 automatically. And the other link you gave only has her saying that her birthday is the following month. She doesn't say the exact day. And as I mentioned before, we can't just keep throwing whatever websites we find online that show a date of birth without considering whether the website is a reliable source. This applies to any celeb that has a Wikipedia article. If you don't agree with how things work, feel free to post it at WP:BLPN. Kcj5062 (talk) 15:27, 30 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
