I have removed the link that suggested that the 'Sierra de Cordoba' in the title of the 3rd mov. of 'Nights in the gardens of Spain' is the area in Argentina. They are the mountain range adjacent to the city of Cordoba in Spain. GRoe 19:57, 27 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Pianist as "soloist"

I've seen this piece performed live on half a dozen occasions, have heard it broadcast on radio hundreds of times, and have had a few different recordings of it. In every case, without exception, the point has been made that de Falla wanted the piano to be just another instrument of the orchestra and not a featured, concerto-like, instrument. Yet, paradoxically, the pianist always gets top billing and when performed at a concert the piano is at the front of the stage. I appreciate that the piano part is very difficult and requires a virtuoso to perform it well, and pianistic prime donne being what they are, maybe this explains this practice.
