Requested split 22 April 2020
[edit]CALIDOT → Siemens Viaggio Comfort and Next Generation Bi-Level Passenger Rail Car – I think we should split the information on this page to the Siemens Viaggio Comfort page (which currently redirects to Railjet) to discuss this particular rolling stock. We can wrap up information on the Railjet, Virgin Trains USA, San Joaquins/Amtrak Midwest, and VIA Rail equipment. This would be similar to other railcar families (Bombardier BiLevel Coach and Comet (railcar)).
Just a few thoughts that informed my proposal:
- Caltrans and the midwest states may have given these cars the working title of "CALIDOT" but it's awkward. It appears to be an abbreviation for the California and Illinois Departments of Transportation. The further problem us, those are the two states who are handling the order, but these cars are going to also be used in Indiana, Michigan, Missouri, and Wisconsin.
- We spend more than half of the article talking about the failed bi-level railcar that will never be, followed by talking about a railcar that already exists.
- Siemens officially calls this class of single-level railcar "Viaggio Comfort."
- These railcars are a clone of the cars used by Virgin Trains USA which were nearly identical to the railcars used by Railjet in Europe. Also, Via Rail has purchased identical railcars.
This page can remain under its old title (Next Generation Bi-Level Passenger Rail Car) to explain the failed bi-level cars. -- RickyCourtney (talk) 14:42, 22 April 2020 (UTC)
- What we're really talking about then is a split. I support that; I think it might make sense for the page history to move back to Next Generation Bi-Level Passenger Rail Car, as the bulk of the text and history were about that project. Mackensen (talk) 16:41, 22 April 2020 (UTC)

I think this is a great idea and I support, considering that the cars are already in service on Brightline and will start to be in service on Amtrak in less than a year. Rckania (talk) 20:35, 22 April 2020 (UTC)
