This is the problem with wikipedia, written as it is by anyone who knows - or THINKS he knows - something. Here, the team was at the same level its "last four years" as in the years before. Teams that moved from AA to AAA in 1946 didn't "move" at all. MiLB reclassified, and its top level remained its top level - changing in name only - from AA to AAA. This is just one example; there are many, many, many errors rooted in the lack of understanding of frachise vs. team vs. affiliate. Specifically, the PCL timeline entries viz Phoenix and Tacoma are wrapped around an axle I wouldn't want to try to unwrap. And if I did, somebody would change it back based on what they think they know. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.30.59.51 (talk) 21:36, 18 January 2014 (UTC)
International League Newark Bears started in 1917, not 1926?
[edit]According to multiple reliable sources, two of which I’ve cited in the reworded Lead, the International League Newark Bears began in 1917, not 1926. Unless someone can cite sources to the contrary verifying the 1926 inception date, the article title needs to be corrected. JGHowes talk 20:20, 9 July 2013 (UTC)
- Start dates for minor league teams can be a bit tricky. In this case, the 1925 Bears moved to Providence a few weeks into the season and played the remainder of the season as the Providence Grays. Does that represent a break in the franchise? I believe there was another break in 1920, when Newark didn't field a team. For purposes of this article, I wouldn't have a problem with it covering the team from 1917 through 1949, but it should be noted that there were a couple of breaks during that period. - Agreed. The 1920 and 1925 breaks should be mentioned. Since this article is about the IL Newark Bears, it could be renamed either Newark Bears (1917-1949) or Newark Bears (International League). JGHowes talk 11:13, 10 July 2013 (UTC)
- I think that either of those two names would be fine. BRMo (talk) 03:21, 11 July 2013 (UTC)
