Contested deletion

This article should not be speedy deleted as lacking sufficient context to identify its subject, because... (this page has been created by the person who is administering the school and there was no purpose of doing any kind of advertisement. most of the data has been taken from the official site of school i.e. www.nrsjps.com) --Pratham 16:22, 21 October 2013 (UTC)

"No purpose of doing any kind of advertisement" runs directly counter to "most of the data has been taken from the official site of the school". Organizations (schools included) generally create websites in order to promote themselves. Certainly, the promotional language in this article follows that pattern. Hello there Pratham, I have left you a note over on your personal talkpage. Please click here to see it. User_talk:Prathamprakash29. I understand you're having a tough time getting your article and your images respected, but do not worry, I'll show you the ropes. WikiDan and Eastmain are trying to help, and doing a bang-up job. I'll explain everything to you, no worries. Thanks for improving wikipedia, and talk to you soon. 74.192.84.101 (talk) 21:18, 27 October 2013 (UTC)

Neutrality

I have copyedited the article so that it will be less promotional. Eastmain (talkcontribs) 16:54, 22 October 2013 (UTC)

I have completed the job. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 17:30, 22 October 2013 (UTC)

Full protection: IP editor repeatedly vandaliing page in order to delete material from the lead. First instance two weeks ago, repeated today in more egregious manner. I had to revert many edits to reach the rollback target text in the lead. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Prathamprakash29 (talkcontribs)

Firstly, this is the wrong place to request page protection. That should be done at WP:RPP. Secondly, no vandalism (IP or otherwise) has occurred on this page. The only person this page needs protection from is its creator who refuses to accept the help offered by other more experienced editors to bring this page into conformance with Wikipedia guidelines and policies. Prathamprakash is reminded that he does not own this page. Once published, it becomes open for all editors to update and improve. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 11:12, 23 October 2013 (UTC)
Hello Dan, welcome to wikipedia!  :-)   As you know, this place can be tough on newcomers, but please WP:AGF, and do not let your frustration lead to WP:BITE. Appreciate your work, of course, and fully recognize your experience, but Pratham is confused about the meaning of WP:OWN right now, and possibly also about COPYVIO. Everything will all get sorted out. Thanks for improving wikipedia, carry on, I'll see if I can have a chat with Pratham. 74.192.84.101 (talk) 21:27, 27 October 2013 (UTC)
Hello Pratham, and might I also welcome you to wikipedia! I promise, Dan is helping you, and so is Eastmain. Instead of attacking them for reverting you, the right thing to do is to discuss the problem here on the article-talkpage, or on user talkpages. This sounds confusing, and it is, but deleting something is not considered vandalism around here, most of the time! We have whole squadrons of people, who spend all their time deleting things, for oh-so-many reasons. In this case, some sentences were deleted from the lead. Instead of putting them back, you should always come to the article talkpage, and ask why the material was deleted. Here, let me help. Just a minute. 74.192.84.101 (talk) 21:27, 27 October 2013 (UTC)
Dan, somebody deleted some sentences from the lead. (gasp!) Do you know why this happened? 74.192.84.101 (talk) 21:27, 27 October 2013 (UTC)

Prathamprakash29 (talk · contribs) insists on adding Facebook and Google+ links to this page, despite the policies at WP:EL. Specifically, such links should only be added if they provide unique information that is not available at the subject's official website and that cannot reasonably be added to the Wikipedia article itself. Wikipedia is not to be used as a means to drive traffic to the school's social media outlets. Since the Facebook and Google+ pages of this school do not satisfy the conditions of WP:EL, they do not belong. I invite Pratham and others to comment on this issue. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 15:31, 23 October 2013 (UTC)

Hmmm. I think I agree with Dan here. Doesn't the official school website link to their facebook page? Pratham, can you tell us your ideas please? 74.192.84.101 (talk) 21:29, 27 October 2013 (UTC)

Thanks. 74.192.84.101 (talk) 06:38, 21 November 2013 (UTC)

I've been content to let the trivial facts remain (we're a school: we teach subjects) because, frankly, the entire article is trivia. If you remove that, you're left with "New R.S.J. Public School Senior Secondary exists." Without access to local sources (newspapers, school board reports, etc) there's not much else we can say about the school, and the article's primary author doesn't appear willing or able to provide anything more substantive. In the long run, I'm not sure this article is going to survive, but I'm certainly willing to let it have its chance to improve. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 11:48, 21 November 2013 (UTC)
Similar. I've beaten the bushes for sources and found only a couple of mentions in The Hindu. What I haven't yet done is cross-checked with the town; in the past I've found sources on Indian schools at town-related pages. ... and I haven't yet tried to find out what R.S.J. stands for. Also, I suspect we don't have clarity on the sites and affiliated schools: note the name is senior secondary, but the school is said to start at Nursery. There may be lurking sources on the lower school part. Putting this here partly in hopes Pratham will respond with a source or two on these issues. But I'm inclined to leave the data we have: the buses are unusual in being wifi-equipped, and for all we know the course offerings are distinctive for that market too. Yngvadottir (talk) 13:50, 21 November 2013 (UTC)

You can get more info. about the school on different newspaper such as Amar Ujala and Dainik Jagran. I will put more info. when i think it is good time. Also full form of R. S. J. is Recreational Study Junction. I also want help that how do i put pictures so that they don't get deleted and how to add school song on school's page. — Preceding --Pratham 15:50, 1 December 2013 (UTC)comment added by Prathamprakash29 (talkcontribs) 15:42, 1 December 2013 (UTC)

I don't think those newspapers have online archives; if not, I won't be able to see them :-(. Could you please add some references from articles in them? That would really help the article. Unfortunately, we can't have photographs unless you physically took them. If you have a camera, please get us some! If it's published on the web, it is a copyright violation to use it because someone else owns it (the photographer, usually), and because everything on Wikipedia has to be free for anyone to reuse for any purpose, it isn't good enough to just get the photographer's permission to use it here. The same for the school song; we can't quote entire poems or songs because they are copyrighted as soon as they are published. In any case, I don't think the school song improves the article very much. Were you able to find out how many students there are? Perhaps a newspaper article says that? Also, are the nursery and junior pupils really part of the Senior school, or are they in a separate building? What years or ages are actually in the Senior Secondary school? (P.S.: sign your name like this: ~~~~ or by clicking on the signature symbol that probably appears above your editing screen.) Yngvadottir (talk) 16:06, 1 December 2013 (UTC)
Hello Pratham. You can call me 74. Thanks for improving wikipedia, and thanks for talking with us.  :-)   I have several questions, and some answers.
  1. How many students are in the school?
  2. Can you record an audio-file of the school song, of which you personally own the copyright? Do you know who owns the copyrighted lyrics?
  3. You can upload pictures that nobody will delete by taking the pictures yourself with a camera. You cannot just copy pictures from elsewhere on the internet, even from the school's own website. That is not okay. Do you have a camera, or can you borrow a camera from somebody?
  4. Now is a good time for those newspapers, please! What day was the story about the school published?
Thanks, appreciate it. 74.192.84.101 (talk) 17:52, 1 December 2013 (UTC)

Hi 74, There are more than 2500 students in the school. I will tell the actual figures later. I will soon upload the audio file of the school song. I want to know what should i put the tag on pictures like cc or somewhat else. There are separate building for class Nursery to UKG, a separate one for class 1 to 8 and one for 9 to 12.--Pratham 15:10, 2 December 2013 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Prathamprakash29 (talkcontribs)

I'm not sure I would encourage uploading the audio of the school song. Copyright issues may or may not apply, but the content is simply not encyclopedic. Wikipedia is not here to serve as the school's alternative homepage, so content that is of interest only to the school's students is not really appropriate. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 15:15, 2 December 2013 (UTC)
That might be the case, Dan. With the copyright troubles, maybe we should hold off on uploading the lyrics, or the audio. We don't want wikipedia to get in trouble. Dan, you have a lot more experience than me, editing articles about schools. Can you give us some links to some schools which are excellent articles, that Pratham and the rest of us can use to guide our efforts on NRSJS, please? 74.192.84.101 (talk) 19:16, 2 December 2013 (UTC)
I can do better than that. I can point you to the list of school articles that have already been deemed "good" by the community. Good luck. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 19:35, 2 December 2013 (UTC)
Pratham: if you want to take some new pictures, I would suggest uploading them at Commons, because they have the upload wizard, which makes it easy and suggests licences and you just click on one. (I always go for the least restrictive one.) But you must have taken the picture yourself, not just scanned it. Yngvadottir (talk) 20:03, 2 December 2013 (UTC)

acronym, and number of students

I added the number of students to the infobox, but it does not visibly appear. Is this by design?

Also, Pratham has suggested that we say "also" rather than my own suggest of "formally as" when expanding the acronym-name into the full-name. What is the usual style-approach for this type of thing? Thanks. 74.192.84.101 (talk) 19:21, 2 December 2013 (UTC)

I've seen "short for" used. That template is complicated; I really don't know why the number of students is not showing. But from what Pratham says above, I suspect the actual Senior Secondary is the years 9–12 section (hoping Pratham finds a source we can cite :-) ). Yngvadottir (talk) 19:59, 2 December 2013 (UTC)

Affiliation number is not a valid parameter of the {{Infobox school}} template. I'm not sure what this number represents, but apparently, no one involved in the development of this template ever thought that such a piece of information was important enough to include in the template. I doubt the information has any real value in the encyclopedia. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 16:12, 5 January 2014 (UTC)
Green tickY There was a workaround, free_label1=key and free_text1=value, which I used.[1] From what I can tell grubbing around the internet, the affiliation-number is used kind of like the school-district-number in the USA, aka "N.Y.ISD#321" is a unique school-identifier in the USA, and "Affiliation#2131041" is a unique school identifier for India (the "213" seems to be a regional-specific suffix for many of the schools near Allahabad). Maybe other india schools should also display the numerals? Or maybe my grok of the meaning of affiliation-numbers is not even wrong.  :-)   HTH. 74.192.84.101 (talk) 03:58, 14 January 2014 (UTC)

I don't remember seeing you adding coordinates, as opposed to a map, which is redundant with the address, but for how to add coordinates - see WP:COORD and click on the green bar near the top labelled "Quick Geographical coordinates how to". Then place the coordinates at that point in the infobox, using the {{Coord}} template and adding |display=inline, title so that they show both in the infobox and at the top. I suspect this is easier using "edit source" than the visual editor. Coordinates would be good to have, thanks! Yngvadottir (talk) 13:24, 6 January 2014 (UTC)

Everytime It is operated by the Kumar Educational Society comes on my school page. This is not coreect. Some stupid peson adds it. Please prevent it from being written.

First, it is not terribly civil to call other Wikipedia editors "stupid". Second, the single independent source provided for this article, the Central Board of Secondary Education page for New RSJ, lists Kumar Educational Society as the Managing Trust. Removing information that is verified by citations is generally discouraged. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 18:13, 6 January 2014 (UTC)
Pratham has apologized over at the AfD discussion-page... and actually, may not have been referencing a wikipedian, but rather, the person who wrote the source. In any case, not very WP:NICE, and I've tried to communicate the pillar to them. See below for more on the relationship between Kumar Educational Society, and the two school-buildings. Quickfail

I am quickfailing this GA nomination because the article is barely appropriate for an encyclopedia, let alone to be a GA. It is full of irrelevant information and only one fact in the whole article is cited to a source. Furthermore, there is virtually no content, just a bunch of lists. --Jakob (talk) 19:22, 6 January 2014 (UTC)

Pratham, the source says the school is operated by the Kumar Educational Society. Do you have a source saying otherwise? As to the school song, as you have been told before, it is unencyclopedic detail and also a copyright problem so no, I'm afraid we can't include it. It's there on the school website(s) for readers to see if they are interested. Yngvadottir (talk) 17:59, 9 January 2014 (UTC)

but i do not want to show about Kumar Educational Society. Please remove it. Also, school song is not on schools website. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Prathamprakash29 (talkcontribs) 09:51, 10 January 2014 (UTC)

You don't own the article, and haven't since you clicked "save page" for the first time. And it doesn't matter where the school song is, it'll be copyrighted unless it was written about 200+ years ago. And it's still unencyclopedic schoolcruft (see number 1 at Wikipedia:Schoolcruft#Ways_to_spot_Schoolcruft). --Jakob (talk) 12:53, 10 January 2014 (UTC)
Hello King Jakob, welcome to the article. Take it easy there, Pratham is not of your kingdom. You and Yngvadottir will get along fine, by the way, they are descended from Kvenland's finest.  :-) You can call me 74. Please cut Pratham a bit of slack here, they are a beginning editor, just learning the ropes and all, in case you did not realize.
Pratham, we want wikipedia to have correct information. If the information is wrong, we want to fix it. But remember, wikipedia is not just about today. Wikipedia is about history, also. It should tell the whole story. NRSJPS was founded in 2001. Who was the operator in 2001? Was it operated by Kumar Educational Society in 2001? What about now, in 2014, who is the operator now? What year was the operator changed? There are two school-buildings, in two different places; are they operated by the same operator? When we know these facts, wikipedia can tell the whole story, the history of the school, and how things changed over time. Thanks. 74.192.84.101 (talk) 03:45, 14 January 2014 (UTC)

Both the buildings are operated by the principal of the school and no one else.--Pratham 10:42, 14 January 2014 (UTC)

school song

Pratham, who is the composer of the school song? That person is the owner of the copyright to the words of the song. We have to ask that person. They may not want to put the song onto wikipedia. When you put a picture onto wikipedia, it becomes the property of everyone, in the world. Anyone can change that picture. Anyone can sell that picture. When you put a song into wikipedia, the same thing happens, it becomes the property of everyone in the world. Anyone can change that song. Anyone can sell that song. Do you understand? Wikipedia is for everyone. That means, when you put something into wikipedia, you have to be the owner of it, so that you can give what you put into wikipedia to everyone. If you are not the owner of the song, you cannot put it into wikipedia, unless you ask the owner of the song. 74.192.84.101 (talk) 03:45, 14 January 2014 (UTC)

Some of the GA schools have their song. The_Doon_School#School_songs has audio (partial prolly... fair use), and the quadrilingual text at Saare_Jahan_Se_Achcha#English_Translation. 74.192.84.101 (talk) 04:03, 14 January 2014 (UTC)

move from NRSJPSSS to the new name of NRSJPS

Per WP:BOLD this event happened:

  1. 13:42, 15 Jan 2014‎
  2. Necrothesp moved page
  3. pg Talk:New R. S. J. Public School Senior Secondary
  4. to Talk:New R. S. J. Public School
  5. commenting "appears to be its actual name."

From WP:GOOG-mapping a bit, methinks there are two school-buildings, one is new-article-title-NRSJPS in downtown Jhusi near highway 2, and might(?) be a new construction project, the other is original-article-title-NRSJPSSS which is a good ways south of town on Chathang Road. No hurry to undo the move, but I figured I would point out that there are two distinct buildings, and both have distinct names. My hunch is that the original name was correct, but we'll see. 74.192.84.101 (talk) 21:49, 15 January 2014 (UTC)

There may be two buildings, but that doesn't mean there are two schools. They are presumably branches of the same institution (and this article says education is from nursery level up, which would hardly be called a "senior secondary"). The school's crest simply bears the name "New R. S. J. Public School". -- Necrothesp (talk) 21:56, 15 January 2014 (UTC)
Agreed that they are prolly the same people running things, and that they both share the common title. As for what the article says, it is mostlyabot the NRSJPSSS, but some of the info is conflated with the NRSJPS methinks... in particular, I suspect that Class 12 is only held at Chathang, and that nursery is only held at Highway 2. But since Pratham is local, maybe they can tell us. 74.192.84.101 (talk) 22:47, 15 January 2014 (UTC)

Pratham — can you please tell us, which school-building is used for Class 12 students? Is it just one building where Class 12 students attend? Or is it both buildings? Thanks. 74.192.84.101 (talk) 21:49, 15 January 2014 (UTC)

The building near Highway 2 runs from class nursery to class 5 and the school at chhatnag runs from nursery to class 12. Find a source saying that - see below. Yngvadottir (talk) 13:21, 17 January 2014 (UTC)

Details

At this point we have a short but adequately cited article. I have reverted changes that removed some of the footnotes and added unreferenced material. Some of this is not encyclopedic: how often parents can speak to the teachers, what hours the school has classes, how many library and gym periods there are, all seem to me to fall in this category. Inclusion of such things would depend on whether independent sources have noted them. We have a mention of the annual school event and the two-day inter-house sports meet because there are newspaper articles about both. Are there any newspaper articles - or independent websites evaluating schools - that talk about the parent-teacher conferences? Are there any other newspaper articles that mention the prizes? Are there any independent sources that can resolve the issue of number of classrooms, which I suspect is a problem of ambiguity ("class" meaning "year" vs. "class" meaning "form room"), and/or confusion between the senior wing/building and the whole school. It would be nice to have more detail about the school trips, and for that, either school website would probably be enough: where are some destinations for these trips? Do all students go together or do separate years/forms or classes/rooms go on a trip? What's meant by schedule in the infobox, I believe, is whether years are divided into two or three terms; when does the school year begin and end, and how many terms are there? What other national or international exams are taken? I removed the detail on the sections of the library, but I noticed books on education (books for teachers) included: does the school offer preparatory courses for students who plan to become teachers? computer specialists? an other particular professions? What percentage of the students go on to tertiary education (an independent source for the number would be good!) For the Educomp smartboards, what's needed is a source specifically saying this school is one of the ones equipped with them; I don't see that on the manufacturer's site, but perhaps a newspaper mentioned it? Yngvadottir (talk) 13:16, 17 January 2014 (UTC)

And here's another question that may be easy to answer. The "colours" item in the infobox does not refer to the house colours, which is pretty clearly what we have there now, but to the distinctive colour used in uniforms, for example ties. The students in the videos appear to be wearing maroon blazers - is that the school colour? (It may well appear somewhere on the school website, as guidance for parents buying uniforms.) Yngvadottir (talk) 13:44, 17 January 2014 (UTC)

I can't provide newspaper articles about these things because the newspaper don't show news about these small thing. There are 47 classes in the school. The reference telling about 14 classes is outdated. By books for teachers i meant books are provided for teachers teaching in the school. Many national and international exams are held in schools like NSTSE (www.unifiedcouncil.com), NTSE (www.ncert.nic.in/programmes/talent_exam/index_talent.html‎), SOF Olympiads for Maths, science, english and computer (www.sofworld.org) and other exams are also held. About educomp smartclass it is mentioned in school's website (http://newrsj.in/ReadMore.php#smartclasses and http://www.nrsjps.com/page.php?id=2)--Pratham 13:56, 17 January 2014 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Prathamprakash29 (talkcontribs) thumb|School uniform detail--Pratham 14:02, 17 January 2014 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Prathamprakash29 (talkcontribs) The picture is a page from school's diary telling about school uniform--Pratham 14:11, 17 January 2014 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Prathamprakash29 (talkcontribs)

So, maroon it is. I'll make the edit referenced to that page when I get home from work, but a quick follow-up question: how many years of the school are coeducational (girls as well as boys)? Yngvadottir (talk) 14:23, 17 January 2014 (UTC)

What do you mean by this question. I can't understand. Also it is not all marron. Please see the image i uploaded it different for different dresses. Only sweater and blazer is maroon. the shirt is white and trouser is black ..... Please see the image. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Prathamprakash29 (talkcontribs) 14:31, 17 January 2014 (UTC)

White and black are neutral colours; the defining colour of the school is maroon. Does the school play inter-school sports? If so, what colour(s) do the teams wear to identify them? Are the ties maroon, maroon and silver, maroon and black, or something more complicated?
The co-educational question arises from the fact I notice only trousers in the uniform list, no skirts, and the library picture has only boys. There are girls in the pictures of younger students, though, including the yoga class picture. So I wonder whether the senior secondary years are boys only? Or are there separate classes for girls and boys after a certain year? Yngvadottir (talk) 15:55, 17 January 2014 (UTC)

Yes during the inter school sports the school representative wear the school dress i.e. White shirt, black trouser, tie which is black and red in colour. No. the school is co-ed and both boys and girls study in same class. There is no separation between them. The school was co-ed from the starting day.Pratham 16:42, 17 January 2014 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Prathamprakash29 (talkcontribs)

Third GA nomination

Even though this article was quickfailed on January 6 and again on January 16 for falling far short of the Good Article criteria (see WP:WIAGA), it was nominated for a third time. I am asking that the new nomination be withdrawn immediately.

Quite simply, the article isn't even close to being a Good Article by Wikipedia standards. That doesn't mean that it hasn't made a good beginning, or isn't improving. There are set criteria for Good Articles that this article doesn't meet. It will take a lot of work to get there: much more material, etc. In fact, it may never get to that point: the vast majority of articles on Wikipedia never do, though they are worthwhile and useful articles.

Nominating the same article so quickly in succession is not appropriate when the issues previously identified have not yet been addressed—in this case, the most recent review points out that a significant expansion is necessary, and some cleanup still remains to be done. I strongly recommend you do not nominate the article for GA again until you get feedback that it is ready from some of the editors you've been working with on this talk page. Thank you. Please note that failed reviews must be left on the talk page. I've restored the ones that were deleted earlier a little while ago. BlueMoonset (talk) 00:32, 18 January 2014 (UTC)

Please someone convert it into hindi. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Prathamprakash29 (talkcontribs) 11:47, 8 May 2014 (UTC)

I fear they may delete it over there if it isn't translated fast; however, I've asked someone on Wikidata to create an item for the school there so that the two articles can be linked. Yngvadottir (talk) 12:28, 8 May 2014 (UTC)
Yngvadottir Can you please request someone to improve the article by converting it into Hindi.--prathamprakash29 12:05, 9 May 2014 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Prathamprakash29 (talkcontribs)
No, I'm afraid I can't - I can't write Hindi! Yngvadottir (talk) 12:46, 9 May 2014 (UTC)

I can't even write enough Hindi to ask someone over there to do it! However, it looks as if you have translated it, and someone has fixed the references. Yngvadottir (talk) 15:49, 9 May 2014 (UTC)

Alumni

I've removed the head of the Honesdale Rotary Club from the list of alumni; the video in no way documents that he was a student there. I wonder whether this is also the case for the others now referenced to the newspaper articles about the school, involving a misunderstanding of the word. Alumnus/alumna refers to a person who was a student/pupil at a school/university; perhaps these are people associated with the school, but did they receive part of their education there? 2001 is not very long ago for it to have so many distinguished former students. Yngvadottir (talk) 16:31, 15 May 2014 (UTC)

Unfortunately, it has been reinserted more than once (I've reverted multiple times). The editor who keeps adding it, a student at the school with an obvious conflict and no sense of Wikipedia policy, has now changed the section header to be the very vague "People associated with the school". What on earth does that mean? By doing that, he doesn't have to demonstrate that Fulp was an alum. He just cites a source that Fulp visited the school. I won't even talk about some of the other sections of the article that are pure pulp.--Bbb23 (talk) 16:29, 7 June 2014 (UTC)
I made that change to the header, because it's clear from the names and the references that as I suggested above, Pratham didn't understand the word "alumni" and means people who have visited or assisted the school. The article should not claim that the various government figures attended the school without reliable sources saying so. It may be better simply to remove the section, but I'd like Pratham to speak up here on the issue, so pinging him. Yngvadottir (talk) 16:43, 7 June 2014 (UTC)
Ah, well before you changed the header, I changed it. It was "Notable people", and I assumed he meant alumni because that's standard in school articles. I can tell you what he'll have to say. He won't like it. And he won't like my latest round of edits, which included removing a different section entirely. Why do we care what song the student body sings at the beginning of each day?--Bbb23 (talk) 16:47, 7 June 2014 (UTC)
Yes, it had been alumni until I raised the question above, when he changed it to Notable people, so I take it I am right and they are not actually alumni, and I don't think it should go back to alumni without sources. Frankly, as I say above, I think the school is a bit new to have accrued notable alumni yet, although it's possible there are some with articles on Hindi Wikipedia. (That also makes the Honesdale Rotary Club chairman admissable on the same basis, although one could wish the Honesdale Rotary Club posted things online more formal than YouTube videos and Facebook posts.) I agree with you about the songs, unless of course some newspaper or local news site has mentioned the point. Pratham ... ? Yngvadottir (talk) 17:35, 7 June 2014 (UTC)
None of those people were alumni. they only visited the school as a guest or chief guest. Brian Fulp was also on eof them. So the header should be Notable people and Fulp ahould be added to them. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Prathamprakash29 (talkcontribs) 03:39, 8 June 2014 (UTC)
You haven't explained why the guests of a school should be listed in the article. I might be able to see including something if there was some context as to who the guest is, why they visited the school, and why their visit involved the school - and all that would have to be supported by a reliable secondary source. A list of guests has no value.--Bbb23 (talk) 07:03, 8 June 2014 (UTC)
The reason for their visit is already explained in source. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Prathamprakash29 (talkcontribs) 07:18, 8 June 2014 (UTC)
That's not the way it works. You add material to an article supported by a source. You don't expect the reader to look at the source to find the material itself. As an aside, please learn to WP:SIGN your posts.--Bbb23 (talk) 07:44, 8 June 2014 (UTC)
Ok then you please read the source and add the names of alumni.--prathamprakash29 12:39, 8 June 2014 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Prathamprakash29 (talkcontribs)
Pratham, the sources all just say that these people visited the school. The officials have probably visited many schools in the course of their duties, and Bbb23 is right, the Honesdale Rotary Club chairman is not independently notable, and usually we only include notable people in these sections. Best would be if there are any actual notable alumni (people who were students at the school), but since it was not established long ago, it's quite possible there are not. If there are not, I think we should leave the section out, and wait for someone who was a student there to become notable enough to qualify for a Wikipedia article. With a newer school, there's nothing bad about not having notable alumni yet. Yngvadottir (talk) 13:23, 8 June 2014 (UTC)
But, cant we add notable people section--prathamprakash29 14:13, 8 June 2014 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Prathamprakash29 (talkcontribs)
I have left it alone, but I think Bbb23 is right to question it. None of these people is very closely associated with the school - they just visited it. Except for the Rotary Club guy, and unfortunately there are no indications that he is a notable person. What we would need is a source associating someone closely with the school who is also a notable person - like if Bill Gates donated money to this particular school, or if the state education minister endowed a scholarship there. Such things are rare; students who later become well known people are more common, which is why so many school articles have Alumni sections. [By the way: sign your name by adding ~~~~, or if you don't have that symbol on your keyboard, there should be a button somewhere with a picture either of a hand holding a pencil or a squiggle; press that and the ~~~~ will be inserted wherever your cursor is.] Yngvadottir (talk) 15:58, 8 June 2014 (UTC)

Reassesment

It has been so long I have started the reassesment of Article. Why isnt someone paying attention to it??--prathamprakash29 15:40, 29 May 2014 (UTC)

Sports

We've had a back and forth a couple of times on the sports section, so we should discuss it. It should reflect what the sources say - although in this case the sources are the school's two websites. (A newspaper article or two on school teams playing other schools would be nice, but I daresay interscholastic sports are not such a press obsession in India as in, for example, the US.) At least one referenced sport has been omitted - taekwando yoga. Was this an oversight? I agree we should leave out the board games and karom; they are not so much sports as recreation. Thoughts? Yngvadottir (talk) 16:31, 15 June 2014 (UTC)

I don't care much if you want to add it, but I don't think of yoga as a sport. I also think that if we keep the section (it's not very interesting), it would be better as prose than as a list. It's all sourced to the same page, and it seems silly to keep repeating the ref.--Bbb23 (talk) 17:18, 15 June 2014 (UTC)
I see. <Insert Transcendental Meditation flying joke.> But the source does classify it there. I'd thought of prose, but that would make it harder to avoid copyviolating the source. Yngvadottir (talk) 17:35, 15 June 2014 (UTC)
Just because a source calls a banana an orange doesn't mean we have to. I think I can convert it to prose without a copyright vio. I'll take a stab at it, but I'll leave the yoga and the TMF to your discretion.--Bbb23 (talk) 17:44, 15 June 2014 (UTC)
Thanks. I pushed and pulled it around a bit, including reinserting the yoga and downgrading the taekwando as per the source. I'm not sure who removed the interactive whiteboards, but the same page references them, so I put them in again. How does that look now? Yngvadottir (talk) 18:01, 15 June 2014 (UTC)
Good job; you get an A+.--Bbb23 (talk) 18:06, 15 June 2014 (UTC)
