Netaji Palkar - Not Kayastha
[edit]Why this wrong information is being put to public? Netaji was not Kayastha and another imp point is that he was Father in Law of Shivajis daughter. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 202.80.57.2 (talk) 09:13, 18 April 2008 (UTC)
sorry brother.. i dont know if he was kayastha or not... but he definately was not father in law of shivaji's daughter... the father in law of shivaji's daughter was Pilaji Shirke!! —Preceding unsigned comment added by 59.162.17.49 (talk) 10:24, 11 September 2009 (UTC)
- My reply is delayed by 10 years :-) 202.80.57.2, I think the person who added CKP 10 years back was correct. The newly added source actually does say he was CKP. Also, that name is very common in that community(see People of India - Singh's book from oxford university press). You are right that present day CKPs will not accept arranged marriages with Marathas. You are probably basing your opinion on that. Based on a quick glance of listings on marriage advertisements of Maharashtrians on the Snehaprabha marriage website (check it for yourself), the community they marry most (outside their own) is the Saraswat Brahmin community and vice versa (I might be mistaken as this is just a personal observation). But this is not surprising since researchers have stated that they are socially and ritually close to the marathi brahmin community(except the non veg part)- and saraswats are usually non vegetarian. However, one should note that Shivaji was an exception as he was a king. He wore the sacred thread at the time (just as the CKPs do)- although historians have disputed his rights to do this. More importantly, it could just be that Netaji Palkar was not very caste minded hence had no objections. Or maybe the niece was a widow and widow remarriage was strictly forbidden in brahmin, ckp, saraswat communities until mid 1900. Or maybe Netaji had political gains from the marriage. These are all speculations. Just as yours is. So we cannot make any judgement based on the marriage. All we need to do is reflect the sources. Acharya63 (talk) 06:33, 30 May 2018 (UTC)
