Naming of regions

Care has been taken to use the English names of the different regions, based on reliable sources wherever possible in order to set a standard baseline for the naming of German natural regions, to minimise confusion and to build the reliability and integrity of Wikipedia articles in this area.

In many cases names are identical or there is close agreement between the English-language sources and the BfN's names. Where this is not the case, I have tried to stay faithful to the original name in translating it, using similar principles to those used in the sources. Please discuss any improvements on this page before editing the names, as there will be a knock-on effect to the linked articles. --Bermicourt (talk) 13:24, 24 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
